We are accepting applications for this position until 10/16/2026

Position Overview:

At Freddie Mac, you will do meaningful work that helps build a stronger housing finance system and supports homeownership and rental housing opportunities across the nation. Launch your career by contributing to one of the most important risk management functions in the financial services industry.

Our internships and graduate programs provide opportunities to tackle complex business challenges, collaborate with experienced professionals, and make an impact from day one. As an Enterprise Risk Business Intern, you will gain exposure to enterprise-wide risk management practices, emerging technology risks, AI governance, and strategic oversight activities while developing valuable analytical, communication, and leadership skills.

Our Impact:

Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) helps build and maintain a strong, effective, and efficient risk management framework across Freddie Mac. We provide independent oversight and assessment of financial and non-financial risks while promoting a strong risk culture throughout the organization.

As risk management continues to evolve, our teams play an increasingly important role in overseeing areas such as artificial intelligence, model risk, fraud risk, data governance, and enterprise-wide risk frameworks. We work across business functions to ensure that risk management practices remain effective, scalable, and aligned with regulatory and business expectations.

Your Impact:

Project Support

As an intern, you will support projects and initiatives that contribute to Enterprise Risk priorities, which may include:

  • Contribute to cross-functional projects that help strengthen enterprise-wide risk management capabilities.
  • Promote a culture of sound risk management through adherence to corporate standards, policies, and governance practices.
  • Partner with stakeholders across the business to gather information, understand risk management practices, and support decision-making.
  • Utilize tools such as Excel, Tableau, SharePoint, Microsoft 365 applications, and AI-enabled solutions to organize information and improve repeatable processes.
  • Support sampling, reconciliation, and review activities related to AI repositories, data assets, models, and program documentation.
  • Assist with oversight and governance activities across AI risk, model risk, fraud risk, and other enterprise risk management functions.
  • Analyze information and identify opportunities to strengthen risk frameworks, governance processes, controls, and documentation practices.

  • Support strategic initiatives involving process improvement, governance effectiveness, and business oversight activities.

Professional Development

Participation in the program will support your continued professional growth through targeted training, mentorship, and exposure to senior leadership. You will:

  • Gain exposure to Freddie Mac's enterprise risk framework, governance structure, policies, and oversight processes.
  • Build analytical, risk management, leadership, and business communication skills.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of AI governance, enterprise risk management, and emerging technology risks.
  • Participate in AI-focused learning opportunities, including introductory generative AI and risk management training.
  • Expand your professional network through interaction with risk professionals, business leaders, and cross-functional partners.

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in a full-time graduate degree program in Business Administration (MBA), Risk Management, Economics, Finance, Public Policy, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Technology Risk, Program Management, or a related field.
  • One to three years of professional work experience.
  • Expected graduation date of December 2027 or May 2028.
  • Strong interest in enterprise risk management, governance, artificial intelligence, data analytics, or business process improvement.

Preferred Skills

  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including experience working with formulas, reconciliation processes, and data analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and SharePoint.
  • Familiarity with Tableau, Power BI, business intelligence tools, or data visualization platforms.
  • Exposure to AI tools, bots, agents, prompt engineering, or automation technologies.
  • Experience working with large datasets and business process documentation.
  • Coding experience, data analytics experience, or familiarity with AI governance, model risk, cyber risk, or program management is a plus.

Keys to Success in this Role:

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Strong initiative and the ability to proactively identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
