JOB SUMMARY

Supervises and participates in the maintenance and protection of Greenville Water's North Saluda watershed and associated structures. This position plans, directs, and oversees watershed activities to maintain the highest quality raw water supply and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, under occasional supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • With guidance from the Director of Watersheds, manages and directs the activities of the watershed staff; oversees maintenance, security, safety, environmental compliance, emergency preparedness (to include dam safety and wild land fire protection), and operations of Greenville Water's reservoirs; develops and implements standard operating procedures for assigned duties.
  • Instructs, trains, inspects work activities of assigned staff; performs other supervisory duties to include scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, allocating personnel, interviewing, selecting, and recommending transfers, promotions, discipline, termination of employees, and conducts staff performance evaluations.
  • Develops, and monitors assigned Watershed Management operations, maintenance, and budgets; develops annual staffing plan for area of responsibility.
  • Coordinates assigned Watershed Management operations with Greenville Water maintenance, laboratory, engineering, and plant operations groups.
  • Works with conservation staff to support Forest Ecology, Prescribed Fire, Hydrology, Water Quality, Fisheries, and Wildlife initiatives.
  • Assists in the development of the division budget and develops future budget projections.
  • Manages the operations and maintenance of reservoirs, dams, grounds, fire roads, assists in making decisions regarding operating lake levels and provides input related to downstream flows; oversees the safety/maintenance inspection program for the North Saluda dam.
  • Manages Greenville Water's security for the North Saluda Watershed.
  • Responds to emergency situations at the reservoir and within the watersheds and assists in the coordination of emergency services in response to flooding, wildland fire and other emergencies. Must be available to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day.
  • Ensures compliance with Company safety programs and regulations; ensures required safety training, observation records, and reports are accurate and up-to-date.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Human Resource Officer, and Chief Operations Officer; other division heads and employees; subordinates; customers; consultants; engineers; professional scientists; researchers; City/County personnel; other government agencies; regulatory agencies; suppliers; sales representatives; and the general public.
  • Manages areas of responsibility performing administrative work as needed; attends and conducts meetings; prepares reports, correspondence and other documentation, utilizing a computer.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor's degree in Watershed Management, Engineering, Forestry, or Environmental Science, supplemented by five (5) years of progressively responsible supervisory experience, is preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license. Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain Red Cross certifications in the following: SCDNR Boating Safety, Water Safety, CPR, and First Aid.
