Description

Do You Like Software That Makes Real Equipment Work?

CLX Engineering is looking for an Industrial Automation Software Engineer who enjoys working beyond the computer screen.

Our software is part of real-world automation systems. You will work with Ignition SCADA applications, Python or Jython, SQL databases, servers, networks, and PLC-controlled equipment. You will also test systems, troubleshoot problems, work directly with customers, and occasionally go onsite to help install, commission, or support what the team has built.

This role may be a good fit if you:

  • Have developed or configured systems in Ignition
  • Can use Python or Jython and SQL to solve practical system problems
  • Understand how software communicates with databases, servers, networks, and industrial equipment
  • Enjoy troubleshooting across multiple technologies
  • Want to see your work operate in a real customer environment
  • Are comfortable trading the traditional software office for an airport, conveyor system, control room, or active industrial site when the project requires it

This is not a pure application-development position, and it is not an IT help-desk role. It is a combination of industrial software, systems integration, and field problem solving.

Requirements

Requirements for Successful Candidates

  • Candidates with an associate degree in electrical technology, electrical engineering, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
  • Candidates with ~2 years experience preferred. Recent college graduates who have meaningful hands-on experience through internships, co-ops, project work, labs, military service, skilled trades, or employment while in school may qualify.
  • Excellent written communication skills for daily status reports, emails, etc.
  • Professional, positive attitude willing and able to own your work and assignments while working as a collaborative team.

The Work Environment and Schedule

This role is active and hands-on. Before applying, please make sure the following work conditions fit what you are looking for:

Occasional lifting and carrying of approximately 25 to 50 pounds.

  • Climbing ladders and moving through project and customer work areas.
  • Bending, crouching, reaching, and working in tight or confined spaces.
  • Working in industrial environments that may be hot, cold, dirty, dusty, or loud for extended periods.
  • Wearing required personal protective equipment and following customer-site safety requirements.
  • Working a schedule that may be a standard daytime shift or a project-based shift such as 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m.      to 4:00 a.m.
  • Providing periodic after-hours service support from home or onsite. It is not constant, but it is a regular part of the work.
  • Traveling to customer sites as project needs require.
