Medical Science Liaison-Oncology

Key Areas of Responsibility

Scientific Engagement & Field Activities

• Build, enhance, and maintain scientific engagement with Oncology KEEs.
• Allocate 70% of time to field activities, including 60% in direct KEE/HCP interactions and 10% for preparation.
• Work two days per week from the office to align on field plans with the Medical Head.
• Identify HCPs with strong scientific expertise to collaborate on medical activities.
• Develop and implement KEE engagement plans in collaboration with Medical/TA Head, including pre‑call objectives, key discussion points, and data to be shared.
• Respond to unsolicited requests related to unapproved products or indications in a scientific, balanced, and compliant manner.
• Maintain and update a database of KEEs and propose candidates for advisory boards.

Scientific Exchange & External Collaboration

• Provide scientific updates and contextualize new data for the Oncology community.
• Develop local scientific engagement plan.
• Build trust‑based relationships with external stakeholders (patient groups, medical societies, hospital pharmacy).
• Support CME activities and scientific partnerships.
• Present therapeutic updates and act as a scientific expert in Oncology.
• Facilitate local research projects (ESRs, RWEs) and scientific exchange meetings.
• Share insights with internal teams to inform Medical and Brand plans.
• Support formulary listing discussions with cross‑functional teams.
• Provide scientific support at AZ‑sponsored educational events.
• Monitor and share competitor intelligence relevant to Oncology strategy.
• Plan and execute regional medical activities during product launches.

Scientific Expertise & Development

• Attend relevant Oncology congresses and scientific meetings.
• Demonstrate openness to coaching and continuous development.
• Apply AZ Values in daily work.
• Identify development needs using the 70‑20‑10 learning model.
• Participate in AZ trainings and projects aligned with development goals.

Compliance

• Operate strictly within AZ Codes of Conduct, Ethical Interactions (EI), GPEI, SOPs, and the Global MSL Guide.
• Ensure full compliance when engaging KEEs and external stakeholders.
• Complete mandatory MSL role assignment on SABA Cloud.

Minimum Criteria & Competencies

• External experience — 2–3 years of experience in Medical Affairs. Oncology experience is strongly preferred.
• Internal experience — For internal commercial candidates, 3–5 years of experience within AstraZeneca with a consistent record of strong performance and demonstrated scientific aptitude.
• Scientific qualifications — Advanced scientific degree in life sciences with clinical knowledge in Oncology. MD or PharmD is preferred.
• Strong stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Driving license and availability for business travel.
• English fluency.
• No disciplinary actions in the past year.
• Medical aspiration reflected in the IDP is an advantage.
