How You Will Make an Impact:
The Operations Supervisor provides technical support for the safe and efficient operation of the Dune Express. Duties include but are not limited to: coordinating operational demands for each shift, planning sand transfers from 115/874, assisting maintenance in repairing equipment such as conveyors, compressors, pumps, diesel engines and control devices. Assist in troubleshooting issues, repairs, failures of production and facilities equipment and ensures maximum efficiency and effectiveness of operations. Work with planner/scheduler and production supervisors on coordinating jobs and plant downtime. Help develop SOP’s and PM’s to improve plant operations and mechanic job skills. Understands process flow and evaluates ways to increase operating efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate daily operations activities for the assigned shift to ensure safe and efficient execution of work, and targeted daily demands are met
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) point of contact for operations crews, operations planning, and leadership during the shift
- Plan, prioritize, and allocate work to team members based on operational needs and maintenance schedules
- Perform hands-on maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of conveyor systems and associated equipment
- Provide technical guidance and support to mechanics during troubleshooting and repair activities
- Monitor system performance, throughput, and equipment condition to proactively identify issues
- Coordinate planned and unplanned downtime to maximize equipment availability and minimize production interruptions
- Act as site technical expert for conveyor and associated systems
- Develop and maintain standards, procedures etc
- Assist Maintenance and Reliability in diagnosing recurring failures.
- Assist in RCA’s
- Coach and develop all technicians
- Provide shutdown support as required
- Assist with CMMS and condition monitoring systems
- Gather technical information for maintenance crews to perform the jobs safely and efficiently
- Develop SOP’s and procedures to improve employees’ skills.
- Make sure equipment repairs are being done properly and parts are being issued to the work orders, checks the status of equipment availability, and work with operation supervisors to coordinate downtime
- Help develop tasks related to predictive and preventative maintenance programs to improve the operation of plant equipment
- Be able to interrupt blueprints and equipment manuals
- Work with Warehouse specialist to maintain critical spares for plant equipment
- Contact and work with contractors/vendors on projects and to keep up with the latest technologies
- Knowledge of how equipment works, from gearboxes, conveyors, hydraulics, load out chutes, gas and diesel engines, vehicle and machine repairs, with the ability to troubleshoot and analyze equipment problems
- Coordinate work with Planner/Scheduler and follow up on completed jobs
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance maintenance practices and equipment reliability
- Work overtime or extended hours as required to support operational needs
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Required:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Five (5) + years of experience in mechanical maintenance, including conveyor systems and heavy equipment
- Demonstrated experience in a lead, senior, or acting leadership role within a maintenance environment
- Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical systems
- Working knowledge of conveyor systems and bulk material handling equipment
- Strong understanding of safety systems, LOTO, permits, and hazard controls
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
- Experience using CMMS systems for work order management and reporting
- Strong communication and leadership skills in a field-based environment
- Valid driver’s license and qualified through company MVR policy
- Must be able to pass a DOT physical
- Deep expertise in PLC knowledge, SCADA systems, robotics, and other industrial automation technologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data, identify trends, and make informed decisions
- Preferred:
- MSHA certification or prior experience in MSHA-regulated environments
- Supervisory or formal leadership training
- Welding, fabrication, or mechanical trade certifications
- Experience with industrial controls, PLCs, or SCADA systems
- Experience coordinating maintenance planning and downtime activities
Reporting Relationship:
- Reports To: Conveyor Manager
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Mobile on / offload teams
Work Location & Travel Requirements
- Location: Dune Express (field-based operational site)
- Work Environment: Field and shop environment, including outdoor conditions, working at heights, and exposure to varying weather conditions
- Travel %: Minimal to moderate (primarily local/site-based travel as required for operations and maintenance activities)
Schedule/Work Arrangement:
- Weekly Roster (5/2 M-F) 8hr shifts
Physical Demands:
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing, bending, and standing for extended periods
- Capable of working at heights, in confined spaces, and in proximity to operating equipment
- Ability to work outdoors in varied and sometimes extreme weather conditions
- Manual dexterity to operate tools, equipment, and perform advanced mechanical repairs
- Must be able to safely operate vehicles and equipment and meet DOT physical requirements
