About the role

We are looking for a SMSF Quality & Assurance Specialist to join our Stake Super team in Sydney.

Stake Super helps customers take greater control of their super through a simple, seamless SMSF experience. Behind that experience is a team responsible for getting the details right – from accounting and tax through to compliance and lodgement. As we continue to grow, maintaining an exceptional standard of accuracy and quality is critical.

You’ll own the quality assurance of SMSF accounts and help shape how quality scales across the team. You’ll combine deep SMSF expertise with strong judgement to review complex work, strengthen our quality framework and lift technical capability across Stake Super. You’ll also be a trusted technical voice when the team or our customers need clarity on complex SMSF matters. We work hybrid spending 3 days in our beautiful, dog-friendly Sydney office.

What success looks like

Over your first two years, you’ll have made a measurable impact on the quality, consistency and scalability of our SMSF accounting operation. You’ll:

• Own the quality review of SMSF accounts, ensuring financial reports, tax returns, governing minutes and audit correspondence meet a consistently high standard
• Build and evolve a robust quality assurance framework that gives the team clear standards, effective controls and confidence as Stake Super scales
• Turn quality insights and recurring issues into practical improvements across processes, systems and ways of working
• Help ensure SMSF tax returns are accurate, compliant and lodged on time, supporting Stake’s obligations as a registered Tax Agent
• Become a trusted technical authority for the accounting team, helping resolve complex SMSF, tax, accounting and compliance matters with clear judgement
• Lift capability across the team through targeted coaching, training and feedback that improves quality at the source
• Stay ahead of legislative and regulatory change across SMSFs, translating what changes into clear actions for the team
• Help create an SMSF experience where strong controls, technical rigour and operational efficiency work together to deliver better outcomes for customers

You’ll thrive here if…

• You bring deep SMSF experience, ideally including 5+ years in SMSF accounting, quality assurance or consulting within a professional services or similarly high-standard environment
• You have strong technical knowledge of Australian accounting, taxation, financial reporting and the Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act and Regulations
• You’re highly proficient with Class Super and understand the systems, workflows and controls behind high-quality SMSF accounting
• You hold, or are working towards, a CA/CPA qualification, SMSF Specialist designation or Tax Agent registration
• You have a sharp eye for detail and strong judgement. You can get deep into complex work while keeping sight of the outcome, prioritising effectively and maintaining momentum
• You communicate technical concepts clearly and enjoy raising the capability of those around you through thoughtful feedback, collaboration and knowledge sharing

Bonus if you’ve ever

• Designed or scaled an SMSF quality assurance or review framework
• Led technical training or capability-building programs for accounting teams
• Acted as a technical escalation point for complex customer or SMSF matters
• Worked in a growing fintech, financial services or technology-led environment where processes and systems are evolving quickly
