The DC Warehouse Lead is responsible for coordinating and supporting day-to-day activities within an assigned distribution center functional area to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, accurately, and in accordance with established operational standards. The Lead serves as a primary operational resource for frontline Team Members during the shift, providing direction on workflow, assisting with problem resolution, reinforcing safety and quality expectations, and communicating operational priorities.

The Warehouse Lead does not have direct supervisory responsibility but plays a critical role in supporting the Warehouse Supervisor with frontline execution, team coordination, training, and continuous improvement. The Lead is expected to lead by example, serve as a subject matter resource for assigned processes and systems, and escalate operational, safety, quality, inventory, or team-related concerns to the Warehouse Supervisor as appropriate.

This position operates across ambient, refrigerated, and frozen environments and may support inbound receiving, put-away, replenishment, storage, order fulfillment, cross-dock operations, inventory management, or shipping execution based on business needs and shift assignment.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily workflow and operational priorities within the assigned functional area in alignment with direction from the Warehouse Supervisor.

• Monitor work progress, workload distribution, and operational flow to help ensure daily plans and service expectations are achieved.

• Provide day-to-day operational direction and guidance to Team Members regarding work assignments, processes, procedures, and priorities.

• Ensure standard operating procedures and established work methods are consistently followed.

• Monitor receiving, storage, selection, replenishment, staging, pallet construction, loading, shipping, or other assigned warehouse activities for accuracy, quality, safety, and productivity.

• Support timely, accurate, and efficient movement of merchandise, supplies, and equipment throughout the assigned area.

• Verify inventory, pallet identification, product location, quantity, and other operational information as required.

• Identify operational issues, inventory discrepancies, equipment concerns, service interruptions, and process exceptions; resolve within established guidelines or escalate to the Warehouse Supervisor as appropriate.

• Serve as a subject matter resource for assigned warehouse processes, systems, equipment, and operational procedures.

• Monitor applicable operational metrics and communicate performance gaps or improvement opportunities to the Warehouse Supervisor.

• Support completion of daily operational documentation, system transactions, checklists, logs, reports, and other required records.

• Support inventory control activities, audits, cycle counts, discrepancy research, and other inventory accuracy initiatives as assigned.

• Assist with continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, service, and operational efficiency.

• Maintain a visible presence on the warehouse floor and lead by example through safe work practices, professionalism, accountability, and adherence to company standards.

• Perform additional duties and provide cross-functional operational support as needed.

Team Coordination & Development

• Serve as a primary day-to-day operational resource for frontline Team Members within the assigned area.

• Communicate daily priorities, workload expectations, schedule changes, process updates, and other operational information to Team Members as directed by the Warehouse Supervisor.

• Support onboarding and training of new Team Members on operational procedures, safety practices, quality requirements, equipment, and warehouse systems.

• Provide real-time coaching and constructive feedback regarding safe work practices, productivity, quality, accuracy, and proper work methods.

• Assist the Warehouse Supervisor with pre-shift meetings, floor huddles, team communications, and operational updates.

• Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and effective communication across warehouse functions.

• Support cross-training of Team Members to improve operational flexibility and ensure adequate coverage of critical functions.

• Communicate Team Member questions, concerns, performance observations, and operational issues to the Warehouse Supervisor in a timely manner.

• Reinforce company policies, procedures, safety standards, and operational expectations; escalate concerns requiring formal supervisory action.

Safety, Quality & Food Safety

• Maintain a strong safety presence on the warehouse floor and reinforce safe work practices and established operating procedures.

• Identify and promptly report safety hazards, sanitation concerns, ergonomic risks, equipment issues, and other potential workplace hazards.

• Support compliance with OSHA, GMP, HACCP, SQF, COOL, food safety, sanitation, and other applicable requirements.

• Monitor product handling practices to help ensure product quality, integrity, and temperature requirements are maintained.

• Support proper product rotation, pallet handling, staging, storage, and movement practices to minimize damage, shrink, and inventory loss.

• Support warehouse housekeeping and cleaning activities to maintain a safe, clean, organized, and efficient work environment.

• Immediately escalate significant safety, food quality, product integrity, or regulatory concerns to the Warehouse Supervisor.

Communication & Collaboration

• Partner with the Warehouse Supervisor and other Leads to coordinate workflow and maintain consistent operational execution across shifts and functional areas.

• Collaborate with Inventory Control, Transportation, Maintenance, Quality, Food Safety, Loss Prevention, and other support functions as directed.

• Communicate operational priorities and relevant updates between leadership and frontline Team Members.

• Communicate effectively with internal business partners, carriers, and third-party service providers regarding routine operational needs, as appropriate.

• Provide timely updates to the Warehouse Supervisor regarding significant operational developments, service concerns, inventory issues, equipment conditions, and other exceptions.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required. College coursework, technical education, or comparable business experience preferred.

• Previous warehouse, distribution center, logistics, retail, or related operational experience required.

• Experience in food distribution, refrigerated or frozen operations, cross-dock, or high-volume distribution environments preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to coordinate daily work activities, provide operational direction, and support frontline Team Members in a warehouse environment.

• Demonstrated ability to provide constructive coaching and feedback while maintaining positive working relationships.

• Working knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory control processes, product flow, and operational standards.

• Working knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), RF scanners, handheld devices, and other warehouse technology preferred.

• Ability to learn and effectively use voice-directed systems, such as VoCollect, and other warehouse technology.

• Experience operating Material Handling Equipment (MHE) preferred; ability to safely operate applicable equipment after required training and certification.

• Basic math skills sufficient to verify pallet identification numbers, package counts, pallet heights, quantities, and other operational data.

• Strong communication, teamwork, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced and changing operational environment.

• Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, HACCP, OSHA requirements, and safe warehouse operating practices preferred.

• Ability to maintain consistent attendance and demonstrate a strong commitment to safety.

• Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as business needs require.

Physical Demands

• Frequently lift up to 50 lbs. independently and occasionally lift heavier items with assistance and/or appropriate equipment.

• Frequently stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, grasp, push, and pull throughout the workday.

• Frequent movement throughout warehouse environments on hard surfaces.

• Ability to build and handle pallets up to approximately 6 feet high using cases weighing up to 50 lbs.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment requiring sustained physical activity and endurance.

• Exposure to ambient, refrigerated, and frozen environments, including temperatures as low as -20°F.

• Ability to safely use warehouse equipment and technology after training, including computers, handheld devices, RF scanners, printers, voice-directed headsets, pallet jacks, forklifts, reach trucks, and other applicable operational tools.

• Required to comply with all PPE requirements for the assigned building or work area, including steel-toe footwear, gloves, insulated clothing, safety glasses, and other required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Work Environment & Additional Requirements

• This position operates across ambient, refrigerated, and frozen warehouse environments and may support semi-automated or automated operations where applicable.

• May be exposed to food products and allergens in perishable distribution environments.

• Must comply with all company policies, procedures, safety standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.

• May require work outside of normal business hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime based on operational needs.

• May require limited travel based on business needs.

Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is starting from $23.75.
