As a Senior FPGA & Digital Hardware Engineer on our Digital Controls & Mixed Signal Engineering team, you will design circuit boards and FPGA-based systems for high-performance data acquisition, control, processing, and communications.
We are seeking a hands-on engineer who enjoys working across board-level digital hardware and programmable logic. Your experience may be stronger in board design or FPGA development. You do not need to be a full-time RTL designer or have experience with every technology listed.

Depending on your experience and interests, this role also offers opportunities to lead technical projects, mentor engineers, influence architecture, and improve engineering practices.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

• Design and verify digital circuit boards and FPGA-based subsystems for advanced MRI platforms.
• Develop and modify RTL using VHDL or Verilog and support designs through simulation, synthesis, timing closure, and hardware validation.
• Design boards integrating FPGAs, processors, memory, data converters, power supplies, clocks, and communication interfaces.
• Perform component selection, schematic development, design reviews, board bring-up, laboratory testing, debugging, and system integration.
• Define and validate interfaces among FPGA, hardware, firmware, software, ASIC, and system components.
• Debug FPGA, board-level, and system issues using simulation, embedded debug tools, and laboratory equipment.
• Support signal integrity, power integrity, layout, EMC, reliability, and manufacturability reviews.
• Share technical knowledge through design reviews, documentation, collaborative problem solving, and mentoring.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Five or more years of experience developing digital hardware, FPGA designs, or a combination of both.
• Experience using VHDL or Verilog for FPGA design, modification, integration, or debugging.
• Experience with schematic development, component selection, board bring-up, laboratory testing, and troubleshooting.
• Understanding of synchronous digital design, clocking, resets, metastability, clock-domain crossing, constraints, and timing analysis.
• Experience integrating FPGAs or programmable devices with processors, memory, data converters, or communication interfaces.
• Experience with one or more interfaces such as Ethernet, PCIe, DDR, LVDS, JESD204, SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, or comparable technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience mentoring engineers through design reviews, collaborative debugging, or hands-on technical work.
• Experience with high-speed digital interfaces, memory, data converters, signal integrity, power integrity, or multi-gigabit transceivers.
• Experience with automated FPGA builds, simulation, continuous integration, or hardware testing.
• Experience developing products in medical devices, aerospace, defense, telecommunications, industrial controls, automotive, scientific instrumentation, test and measurement, or similar industries.

Work Model

This hybrid position requires a minimum of three days per week on site in Waukesha. On-site work supports board bring-up, laboratory debugging, hardware validation, system integration, and collaboration with engineering partners.

We welcome engineers whose experience is stronger in board-level digital hardware, FPGA development, or a combination of the two. You do not need experience with every FPGA family, interface, or development activity listed.
