The work
The SAP Interface SME will serve as a key integrator between government agency systems and the new SAP S/4HANA solution. This role is designed for a hybrid expert who combines deep functional knowledge of these external systems with hands-on technical integration skills. You will lead the analysis, design, and build of interfaces that connect client systems and partner systems to SAP S/4HANA, ensuring smooth, reliable, and secure data exchange across the defense ecosystem.
Key responsibilities:
- Analyze legacy interfaces, protocols, and data structures to design modern end‑to‑end integration flows between systems
- Perform hands-on interface development, mapping, and configuration using SAP Integration Suite / CPI, PO, PI, EDI, IDocs, BAPIs, and Web Services
- Collaborate with external trading partners to align on ICDs, schemas, test timelines, and interface requirements
- Translate business processes (finance, supply chain, asset management) into precise technical mappings for secure and accurate data transactions
- Lead unit testing, SIT, partner integration testing, and troubleshooting of complex errors and mismatches across interface layers
- Author and maintain Interface Control Documents, technical specifications, mapping templates, and integration design artifacts
- Drive partner readiness and testing commitments through strong communication and proactive coordination
- Ensure integration designs follow correct standards including security, encryption, and transmission protocols
- Support modernization by converting legacy interface logic (e.g., COBOL, flat files) into S/4HANA‑compatible data structures and flows
Here’s what you need:
- 6+ years of IT experience focused on interface and integration design and development within federal ERP environments
- Strong functional understanding of legacy ERP processes and external systems that support supply, financial, or logistics operations
- Hands-on SAP integration experience with PO, CPI/Integration Suite, Web Services, IDocs, ALE, and EDI
- Familiarity with government agency integration standards, secure transmission protocols (SFTP, AS2), and encryption requirements
- Ability to analyze and convert legacy COBOL or flat‑file interfaces into modern SAP integration designs
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with leadership and technical teams interchangeably
- Proven ability to drive partner engagement and meet testing milestones
- Commitment to delivering clean, reliable code with robust error-handling and recovery mechanisms

As required by local law, Accenture Federal Services provides reasonable ranges of compensation for hired roles based on labor costs in the states of California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and the District of Columbia, and the city of Cleveland. The base pay range for this position in these locations is shown below. Compensation for roles at Accenture Federal Services varies depending on a wide array of factors, including but not limited to office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. $124,000—$246,400 USD
