Overview

The Merrill-Cazier Library is seeking a Library Technician to serve as the Evening & Weekend Manager. The Evening & Weekend Manager provides leadership to student employees, collaborates with library personnel to coordinate workflows and resolve operational challenges, and exercises independent judgment to ensure high-quality public service and efficient library operations. This position oversees library operations during evening and weekend hours while coordinating Access Services operations and supporting the delivery of library services.

 

Reporting to the Head of Access Services, this is a full-time, benefited Library Technician position with a minimum salary of $43,000.

The typical schedule is Tuesday-Thursday 12:00pm-9:00pm, Friday 1:00pm-9:15pm, and Saturday 11:30am-9:15pm.

Evening and weekend work is required, and hours will vary based on library hours, university calendars, holidays, and departmental needs.

 

Anticipated start date: August 2026

Responsibilities

  • Oversees library operations during evening and weekend hours, ensuring safe, efficient, and customer-focused service.

  • Coordinates Access Services operations and workflows, collaborating with other library units to ensure timely and effective delivery of library services.

  • Provides leadership, training, and day-to-day supervision of student employees.

  • Provides high-quality customer service through in-person and virtual service points, resolving patron concerns and operational issues using independent judgment.

  • Manages Access Services spaces, equipment, supplies, and other operational resources to support the unit.

  • Collaborates with library personnel on projects, workflow improvements, and initiatives that support departmental and library goals.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of library experience or an associate degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in a public service environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, and community members.
  • Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and ability to learn new systems and technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising, training, or mentoring student employees or staff.
  • Experience in an academic library or complex public service environment.
  • Experience with integrated library systems or library service technologies.
  • Experience resolving patron service issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience coordinating operational workflows or service points.

    Work is performed indoors in an open office environment with shared cubicle workspaces. Employees are protected from weather and contaminants but may experience occasional temperature changes. The position requires prolonged sitting, frequent computer use and repetitive hand motions (such as typing), as well as regular walking, talking, and hearing. The position also requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of library materials and the ability to move loaded book carts.
