Description

Photonic Test Engineers at Photonic are part of a team to realize first-of-their-kind photonic all-integrated circuits for implementing truly scalable quantum technologies. You will be developing, implementing and testing measurement procedures to characterize quantum emitters embedded in photonic circuits at cryogenic temperatures. As a Photonic Test Engineer, you are a specialist in testing photonic on-chip devices and are familiar with evaluating and improving their performance. You will work in a diverse, fast-paced, and multi-disciplinary team of engineers, scientists and technicians.

WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO

  • Develop and implement high-throughput test plans to characterize quantum emitters embedded in active and passive large-scale on-chip silicon photonic circuits – cryogenic and room-temperature
  • Plan for new measurement concepts and architectures to validate and improve quantum emitter performance
  • Design and optimise measurement sequences to reduce cycle time and maximise test throughput
  • Develop and document test and measurement processes and procedures, including developing standard operating procedures
  • Define test stations that integrate temperature-controlled environments with optical and electrical subsystems in collaboration with Device Engineering
  • Define automation requirements to improve test station productivity and repeatability, pushing continuous improvement and efficiencies to our systems and processes
  • Communicate across an interdisciplinary team with varying levels of quantum expertise to translate complex problems to actionable tasks
  • Define and align acceptance criteria for test stations and methods to be adopted in the test and assembly flow with the Test and Device Engineering teams
  • Execute cryogenic tests and generate scripts to analyze results, troubleshooting, diagnosing, to meet chip measurement goals
  • Characterize test station performance and repeatability

WHAT YOU BRING TO OUR TEAM

  • PhD or Master’s degree in physics, applied physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or other relevant discipline
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with photonic or quantum devices
  • Knowledge of and hands-on-experience with integrated photonics and optics
  • Experience developing automated test and data acquisition scripts (e.g., Python)
  • Ability to translate research-style experiments into scalable, repeatable engineering processes
  • Working experience on developing automated data acquisition, test and analysis scripts
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Good organization, problem solving skills.
  • Attention to detail
An exceptional candidate will bring:
  • Hands-on experience with quantum emitters
  • Experience translating research-style systems to standard, productionised processes
  • Experience analysing large data sets and drawing conclusions on device yield and quality
  • Broad experimental capability across optics, electronics, and cryogenic systems
  • Strong understanding of electronics and electromagnetic compatibility

WHY YOU SHOULD WORK WITH US

  • Work closely with some of the brightest innovators in quantum technologies to drive breakthroughs that redefine computing
  • Enjoy a fast-paced and fun environment where you can try new things while solving innovative challenges every day
  • Inclusive company culture that values collaboration
  • Regular social events and fun activities keep our global team connected
  • Competitive compensation package including base salary, stock options, and relocation assistance for global talent
  • Comprehensive benefits including extended health, dental, life, long term disability, an employee assistance program, parental leave top-ups, and a flexible spending account

The description above is what we think an ideal candidate would look like for this role. At Photonic, we understand that everyone has a different work and life journey. If you feel your experience is close to what we've described, but you might not meet all the requirements, please still apply! All roles listed are for current vacancies. While artificial intelligence (AI) tools may be used to assist in reviewing applicant profiles, they do not determine candidate outcomes. Our hiring decisions are made by people, not algorithms. We are committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion. We embrace and encourage our employees’ differences, knowing that these very differences inspire innovation and build better teams. If there are any accommodations our team can make throughout our hiring process, please let us know.
