GD - GTP, Builder Experience
About Builder Experience
Builder Experience (BeX) improves how people plan, build, deploy, and operate technology at Walmart. A builder is anyone who contributes to delivering technology outcomes, including engineers, product managers, architects, operators, security partners, and program leaders.
We create connected workflows, capabilities, and integrations that make secure, compliant, and reliable delivery easier. We work with application teams across Walmart and Sam’s Club, as well as platform teams, to provide cohesive builder experience while teams retain ownership of their products and platforms.
About the Role
As Group Director, Build and Deploy, you will lead the global organization responsible for the builder experience from code through production. You will own the strategy, product direction, engineering execution, adoption, and measurable outcomes for Walmart’s build and deployment experiences.
You will lead teams in India and the United States and work across product, platform, security, reliability, architecture, and business organizations.
This is a transformation mandate. Deployment is the center of gravity, along with the upstream build capabilities required to deliver software safely and repeatedly. You will simplify fragmented workflows, modernize build and release practices, and help Walmart advance toward AI-enabled, intent-driven software delivery.
What You Will Do
- Set the multi-year strategy, architecture direction, and roadmap for Build and Deploy within Builder Experience.
- Reimagine the code-to-production journey by removing the highest-friction and highest-risk steps.
- Deliver secure, compliant, reliable, and self-service workflows that are easy for builders to use and application teams to adopt.
- Modernize build systems, reusable components, artifact flows, continuous integration, continuous delivery, deployment orchestration, and release practices.
- Create a cohesive builder experience that abstracts tool complexity and supports deployment across environments and platforms.
- Integrate AI-assisted planning and execution into build and deployment workflows with appropriate evaluation, guardrails, and human accountability.
- Establish and improve measures for cycle time, pipeline performance, deployment quality, recovery, adoption, builder satisfaction, and manual toil. Define shared roadmaps, ownership boundaries, decision rights, and operating mechanisms with platform, runtime, reliability, Information Security, architecture, and product teams.
- Lead and develop a distributed organization across India and the United States, with clear accountability, strong succession, and equitable access to high-impact work.
- Manage portfolio investment and make deliberate build, buy, and partner decisions based on differentiation, time to value, total cost, and long-term ownership.
- Embed security, privacy, compliance, reliability, accessibility, and responsible AI into product and engineering decisions.
Scope and Partnership Model
The Build and Deploy organization owns the builder-facing experience, workflow orchestration, product roadmap, reusable capabilities, adoption, and outcomes.
Partner teams continue to own core deployment infrastructure and production operations. You will establish clear boundaries and shared measures, align teams around joint roadmaps, and create a seamless experience across platforms.
What Success Looks Like
- Builders can move from code to production through clear, self-service workflows with less manual coordination and fewer handoffs.
- Application teams adopt common build and deployment capabilities because they are faster, safer, and easier to use.
- Delivery performance improves against agreed baselines, including cycle time, pipeline success, deployment quality, recovery, and toil.
- Security, compliance, reliability, and responsible AI controls are integrated into the workflow rather than handled through separate approval processes.
- Platform partners operate with clear ownership, joint roadmaps, service expectations, and escalation mechanisms.
- Teams in India and the United States operate as one global organization with strong leaders, clear accountability, and a healthy succession bench.
What You Will Bring
- A bachelor’s degree with a major in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Demonstrated success leading a large platform engineering, developer experience, build and release, or software delivery organization through significant transformation.
- Technical depth in build systems, artifact management, software supply chain controls, continuous integration and continuous delivery, deployment orchestration, cloud-native delivery, and reliability.
- Experience modernizing complex legacy environments while protecting operational continuity, security, and builder trust.
- A strong product mindset, including customer research, adoption leadership, data-informed prioritization, and measurable outcome delivery.
- Experience leading leaders and distributed teams across regions, with a track record of developing talent and successors.
- The ability to create shared outcomes across organizations with different responsibilities, priorities, and incentives.
- Sound judgment across security, privacy, compliance, accessibility, reliability, and responsible use of artificial intelligence.
- Clear and influential communication with technical teams, executives, and business partners, including the ability to explain trade-offs and make difficult decisions.
- Experience managing enterprise investment, capacity, vendors, and build, buy, and partner decisions.
How You Will Lead
You will build an inclusive global organization that listens to builders and partners, develops strong leaders, and recognizes contributions across locations and roles.
You will make transparent decisions, protect customers and associate trust, uphold security and compliance, and maintain human accountability for AI-enabled actions.
You will connect builder productivity and delivery quality to reliable experiences for Walmart customers, members, associates, and sellers.
You will set a high engineering bar, use data to drive improvement, simplify complex systems, and scale what works.
The Opportunity
This role offers the opportunity to shape how software reaches production on Walmart scale. You will combine platform strategy, technical depth, product thinking, and global leadership to reinvent the Build and Deploy experience and continuously adapt it as technology, risk, and builder needs evolve.
