R&D Team Lead__
Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will have the opportunity to support the strategic technology direction by contributing your own ideas for identifying, proposing, and implementing innovative technology, software and solutions. Each day, you will assist the Research and Development (R&D) team by executing your assigned tasks and using technical knowledge in a structured way. You will also showcase your expertise by staying abreast of the state of the art and actively applying this knowledge.

You will be mainly accountable for:
Design, develop, and optimize power electronics building blocks and semiconductor functions for traction converter applications, with a focus on efficiency, performance, and operational reliability.
Perform electrical and thermal characterization, testing, and qualification of power semiconductors and passive components to ensure robust product performance.
Develop and enhance power electronics building blocks for current and next-generation traction converter platforms, from concept through validation and product introduction.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams across hardware, software, mechanical design, and manufacturing to solve complex technical challenges and deliver innovative R&D solutions.
Our team dynamics
Our power electronics team develops power electronic building blocks and functions for our traction converter families used in vehicles from trams to locomotives, based on the most modern and reliable power semiconductor and gate control technology. We develop the key components for the evolution of our ABB traction products to strengthen our position in the target markets.
Qualifications for the role
Master's degree in electrical engineering (Fachhochschule/University/ETH), with a preferred specialization in Power Electronics.
Knowledge of measurement technology and the structure of test arrangements
Familiar with standard Office-Software (Word, Excel), as well as with simulation & programming tools (Matlab, Simulink, Plecs, Spice, Python)
Good knowledge of German and English, written and spoken
Team player with enthusiasm for power electronics and new product development
Creativity and quick comprehension as well as independent, structured, and proactive way of working
