Junior Infrastructure Support/ Helpdesk Engineer

Location: Durban, Full time onsite Umhlanga
Employment Type: Permanent

Salary: R12 000 – R14 000

Drivers License and Vehicle is highly advantageous

Our client is looking for a Junior Infrastructure Support/ Helpdesk Engineer to join their technical team and gain valuable hands-on experience across networking, security, systems and voice infrastructure. This role is to be based on-site, this is a “shift work” role but if you are working the night shift you will be able to work remotely from home.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded IT professional who enjoys troubleshooting, working with customers and developing their infrastructure engineering skills within a supportive technical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line and operational support for network, security, systems and voice infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve IT incidents and service requests using appropriate tools and processes.
  • Assist customers and internal teams with technical issues and problem resolution.
  • Monitor infrastructure services and manage support tickets through to resolution.
  • Escalate more complex technical issues when required.
  • Liaise with vendors to assist with resolving network, security, systems and voice-related faults.
  • Assist with the configuration and maintenance of network, security and voice equipment.
  • Support system maintenance, upgrades and infrastructure changes.
  • Assist with equipment installations and provisioning of new services.
  • Work alongside experienced engineers on customer and infrastructure projects.
  • Follow established change management, configuration and security procedures.
  • Assist with monitoring infrastructure performance, availability and capacity.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and procedures.
  • Assist with customer implementations and service handovers, including occasional site visits.
  • Participate in a 7-day support schedule and shift rotation.
  • Build positive relationships with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements

  • 2+ years' hands-on experience in an IT environment.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts.
  • Some practical experience with network, systems, security or voice infrastructure.
  • Exposure to Cisco networking technologies.
  • Knowledge of physical network infrastructure.
  • Experience in a customer-facing IT support role.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A willingness to learn and develop within the infrastructure engineering space.

Advantageous

  • Exposure to voice configurations.
  • Exposure to firewall configurations.
  • Basic Linux systems administration experience.
  • Relevant IT certification(s).
