Principal Engineer – Web Threat Detection & Distributed Systems
Remote – United States | Full-Time | Direct Hire
MaxIT Consulting – Max Corporate Group is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer – Web Threat Detection & Distributed Systems for a leading global technology organization specializing in web technologies and large-scale digital protection solutions.
This is a senior individual-contributor opportunity focused on defining end-to-end technical solutions for highly scalable, low-latency products that protect web applications, online services, and digital transactions.
The ideal candidate combines deep software architecture experience with strong knowledge of distributed systems, attack detection, data analytics, machine learning, and modern web technologies.
The Opportunity
In this role, you will help shape the technical direction of products designed to address sophisticated bot, abuse, and web-based threats at global scale.
You will work closely with Product Management, Engineering, and other technical teams to transform complex customer and business requirements into scalable, reliable, secure, and high-performance solutions.
Your responsibilities will span runtime systems, configuration, reporting, analytics, attack detection, and product functionality from concept through implementation.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with Product Management to understand, refine, and translate customer and business requirements into technical solutions.
- Define end-to-end product designs and high-level technical specifications for new and existing capabilities.
- Design highly scalable solutions with strong requirements around availability, reliability, performance, and resilience.
- Architect large-scale, low-latency web-based distributed systems.
- Develop solutions supporting bot protection, abuse prevention, attack detection, and web threat mitigation.
- Incorporate big-data analytics, machine learning, and AI capabilities into product and detection workflows where appropriate.
- Present technical designs, trade-offs, and recommendations to engineering, product, and business stakeholders.
- Provide technical guidance to engineering teams throughout detailed design and implementation.
- Collaborate across multiple organizations and technical disciplines to deliver complex solutions successfully.
- Research emerging technologies and security challenges and document proposed solutions thoroughly.
- Contribute to long-term technical strategy, product evolution, and technology roadmaps.
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of relevant software engineering experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong experience designing large-scale, low-latency, web-based distributed systems.
- Demonstrated experience defining end-to-end solutions for complex software products.
- Strong understanding of scalability, availability, reliability, and performance in distributed environments.
- Experience with big-data analytics, machine learning, and/or AI-enabled software solutions.
- Strong understanding of web technologies and the complete Software Development Life Cycle.
- Ability to move effectively between high-level strategy and detailed technical design.
- Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven ability to operate successfully in environments with ambiguity, evolving requirements, and complex technical challenges.
- Strong customer focus and the ability to translate real-world problems into scalable product capabilities.
- Proactive approach to researching technologies, systems, and emerging technical challenges.

Formal people management is not required. This role is primarily focused on deep technical leadership, cross-functional influence, and individual-contributor architecture ownership.

Work Location and Authorization
This position is fully remote within the United States.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
