Role Overview
As a Fibre Systems Technician, you will be at the heart of the technology that powers Formula 1. Working as part of the Circuit Networks team, you will help deploy, operate and maintain the fibre optic infrastructure that enables the delivery of live broadcast, timing, telemetry and communications systems at events across the globe. Combining technical expertise with a hands-on approach, you'll play a vital role in ensuring the reliability and performance of the systems that connect every aspect of a Formula 1 race weekend.
Main Duties And Responsibilities
- Optically testing, inspecting and commissioning the fibre optic network at F1 events using optical test equipment and end-face cleaning procedures.
- Work within project teams to build systems to the highest standards providing reliable and resilient technical solutions.
- As the fibre optic service provider, you will assist in supporting, configuring and monitoring the system for the broadcast, IT, and communications network.
- Required to ensure the upkeep of equipment list/manifests and liaise with freight department, order new consumables and technical products when requested.
- Firsthand technical support and fault finding for track side systems including Track cameras, FIA marshalling, Telemetry, data acquisition and timing as well as paddock systems and F1 team integration.
- Undertaking race event preparatory work and be able to liaise with F1 departments to ensure Circuit Networks race planning is completed in adequate time.
- Able to provide support to test, service and terminate singlemode fibre using a variety of connectors.
- Confident in general wiring practices and termination of data/power cables when required.
- Keep an interest in new technologies and developments in relation to Track Systems, including contributing to system design and project team involvement.

Experience
Prior to the role it would be essential that you have:
- Experience in a practical, hands-on technical role with telecoms, broadcasting or related field.
- A proven experience and understanding of technical wiring diagrams.
- Must have a systematic approach to fault finding.
- Working in an environment requiring high standards in execution, delivery and presentation.
Some desirable experience that you may bring to the role:
- Confident using fibre test kit such as OTDR, Power meter, optical channel checker.
- Experience with 2D AutoCAD software.
- Experience installing, building, configuring, and troubleshooting technical systems.
- Experience in writing technical reports or technical proposals.
- Experience working in a project environment or being actively involved in delivering technical projects.
- Knowledge of JIRA, project tracking software.
Qualifications
Not essential to be successful in the role but you may also have the following qualifications:
- NVQ Level 3.
- Diploma of Higher Education.
- Vocational Qualification Level 3 (Engineering related field- Electronics/Telecoms).
Knowledge & skills
Prior to the role it is essential that you demonstrate:
- Ability to think on your feet, an efficient problem-solver.
- Excellent communication skills both written and spoken.
- MS Windows literate particularly in Word, and Excel.
- Maintain a clean and presentable work environment.
- Ability to work unsupervised.
- Good communication skills; Able to explain information to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Capable of performing the rig and de-rig duties as required for a team member.
