Senior Zero Trust Security Architect – Training Lead

Work Location and On-Site/Telework Requirements: Hybrid. You'll work remotely and on site at NIH facilities in Bethesda and Rockville, MD, for workshops, training sessions, and stakeholder meetings, as the work requires. Work is performed on Government-furnished equipment under NIH access requirements.

Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship required

Eligibility: Ability to obtain and maintain NIH suitability and a PIV credential. An existing Tier 2 (Moderate Risk Public Trust) or higher investigation, eligible for reciprocity, is preferred. No security clearance is required. English fluency, spoken and written.

 

Overview:

eTelligent Group, LLC supports the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in turning its Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) strategy into operating practice across its Institutes and Centers (ICs). This position supports Task 8, Special Projects: a dedicated team, separate from the core program staff, that develops and delivers NIH-wide ZTA training and supports Government-directed ZTA special projects. This architect is the technical owner and lead instructor for NIH's ZTA training for cybersecurity professionals. You'll teach ISSOs, engineers, architects, analysts, and A&A staff how NIH's Zero Trust Architecture works and how to apply it in their roles.

 

Responsibilities:

• Core course: Own the technical content of the 8-hour core course: Zero Trust principles and NIH strategy, ZTA capabilities in NIH's environments, ZTA in risk management and authorization, and an NIH scenario workshop.
• Role-based tracks: Design and build three 4-hour tracks: ISSOs, A&A/RMF personnel, and assessors; security engineers and architects; and cybersecurity analysts and operations staff.
• Scenario exercises: Build exercises from NIH's reference architectures and patterns, the NIH ZTA Overlay and inherited-control model, and NIH policy anchors.
• Delivery: Deliver 12 core cohorts and 18 track sessions (live virtual, with some on campus). Support general workforce Q&A and leadership briefings.
• Content currency: Keep content current, with a version 2.0 update aligned to accepted NIH architecture, Overlay, and policy products, and quarterly technical refreshes after that.
• Technical review: Write and review knowledge-check items and confirm the technical accuracy of all training materials, including e-learning and micro-learning scripts.
• Train the trainer: Prepare the instructor kit and deliver train-the-trainer sessions so NIH staff can continue the courses.

 

Required Qualifications:

• A bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, computer science, information systems, or a related field.
• At least 10 years of security architecture or engineering experience, including Zero Trust design or implementation (NIST SP 800-207, the CISA Zero Trust Maturity Model) in federal hybrid or cloud environments.
• Working knowledge of the NIST Risk Management Framework, SP 800-53 Rev. 5 controls, and control inheritance.
• At least 3 years delivering technical training or instruction to professional audiences, such as instructor-led courses, workshops, or conference sessions.
• A CISSP, CCSP, or equivalent certification.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

• A CSA Certificate of Competence in Zero Trust (CCZT), CompTIA CTT+, or a cloud security certification (AWS, Azure).
• Hands-on experience with ICAM (PIV, phishing-resistant MFA), micro-segmentation, policy enforcement points, and secure access for legacy or laboratory systems.
• Experience at HHS, NIH, or another federal health or research environment.
• Experience designing scenario-based or hands-on technical learning.
