Mō te tūranga | About the role
The Department of Conservation (DOC) protects and manages Aotearoa New Zealand's natural and historic heritage for the benefit of present and future generations. Our Regional Operations Group delivers frontline conservation work that protects and enhances the places, species, and ecosystems entrusted to our care.

Reporting to the Operations Advisor, the Site Support Officer plays a key part in delivering essential administrative support to help ensure the efficient and safe functioning of DOC facilities across the region.

The position will be focussed on:

  • Supporting the Site Lead to ensure smooth and safe operation of DOC premises, acting as the main site contact for office and facility issues

  • Being the go-to person for general office management

  • Ensuring DOC pool vehicles at site are fit for purpose and maintained as required (such as services and WOFs etc)

  • Support key site health and safety tasks such as safety/fire drills, site inductions, regular checks and ACC safety audits

Please note: This role is 0.5FTE. Days/ Hours to be negotiated between hiring manager and successful candidate.

If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:

  • Experience in a broad administration support, facility or fleet management role

  • Previous customer service experience would be advantageous.

  • Experience in general office management, including record-keeping, scheduling, and supporting day-to-day operations.

  • A detail-oriented problem solver with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities with ease

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work with a range of internal and external stakeholders

  • Tech-savvy and an early adopter of new systems and technologies

  • Ability to coordinate tasks and follow through on site-related issues to completion

  • You bring a proactive approach and a continuous improvement mindset, always looking for more efficient ways to get things done

  • An understanding of workplace health and safety practices (or willingness to learn)

  • New Zealand full drivers’ licence
