Lead Learn to Skate lessons for beginner skaters ages 4–15 Teach foundational skating skills using age- and skill-appropriate activities and instruction Help skaters build confidence and progress through the program’s different skill levels Plan and organize engaging lessons that support participant learning and development Maintain a safe learning environment and monitor ice conditions and participant safety Communicate clear expectations and instructions to participants and parents Work cooperatively with other instructors and Parks and Recreation staff Participate in preseason orientation, staff meetings, and in-service training Arrive on time and prepared for assigned lessons Care for program equipment, supplies, records, and facilities Follow department policies and procedures and represent the City of Durango professionally
Knowledge of ice skating and the fundamentals of skating instruction Experience working with children in an educational or recreational environment is preferred Ability to obtain CPR, automated external defibrillator (AED), and first aid certifications Ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance
Can confidently demonstrate and teach foundational skating skills to beginner skaters Create fun, age-appropriate lessons that keep young skaters engaged and learning Communicate clearly and patiently with children and parents Stay attentive to participant safety and individual needs while working on the ice
