Description
The Construction Engineer is responsible for performing conceptual and detailed engineering for facilities construction, requiring knowledge of construction codes, techniques, procedures, applicable industry standards and design standards.
- Apply range of skills and knowledge, including engineering calculations, construction codes, material selection and construction safety.
- Validate designs proposed by the Construction Designer (internal or external) and provide the necessary engineering for the feasibility and constructability study of the facility.
- Be responsible for meeting the schedule and advising management of schedule errors and deviations. Prepare man-hour estimates for new projects and changes in design.
- Prepare engineering and construction calculations to support the conceptual design made by Construction Designers from scratch, sketches or verbal instruction, utilizing computer-assisted drafting and design techniques.
- Perform fundamental engineering support tasks such as updating computer lists, filing prints, distributing drawings, making simple calculations, proofreading reports and compiling Purchase orders and cost of material and services.
- Check the work of other designers and drafters.
- Ensure project and company procedures are followed.
- Use information from vendor prints, catalogs and technical manuals to do design work.
- Mentor less experienced facility team members.
- Q-HSE coordination: Supervise direct and contract detailed engineering and other engineering personnel.
- Approve work by offsite contract engineers.
- Keep supervisor informed of project progress.
- Stay current on new technologies, materials and processes.
- Travel as necessary to support design projects for field locations.
- Ensure systems are complete, tested, documented, and handed over to operations.
- Ensure the annual CapEx projects plan is completed before endo of year.
- Collect all the construction needs from the Stakeholders to forecast the next CapEx plan.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil, or related field).
- Minimum 1 year of project engineering experience in an industrial, construction, or manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD preferred (2D and 3D ).
Strong understanding of engineering drawings, technical standards, and drafting principles.
- Ability to interpret and create detailed drawings, layouts, schematics, and models.
- Strong project coordination, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and manage tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- 0-3 years of experience in construction, facilities, industrial projects, oil & gas, energy, or infrastructure projects.
- Basic knowledge of engineering drawings, construction methods, and engineering calculations.
- Familiarity with construction codes, industry standards, and safety requirements applicable to Guyana and the Caribbean.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and vendor documentation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to travel to field locations and construction sites as required. (Guyana, Trinidad and Suriname)
- Willingness to learn and develop technical, project management, and construction supervision skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Exposure to industrial facilities, oil & gas, manufacturing, or infrastructure projects through internships or project work.
