Hartford Funds is seeking a detail-oriented Marketing Production Designer to join our financial services marketing team. This role is responsible for the design, production, and management of a wide range of marketing materials and company documents—with a particular emphasis on building branded data visualizations (charts and graphs) and producing precise, brand-compliant layouts in Adobe InDesign. This is a production-focused role requiring the ability to create clean, consistent, and highly readable layouts through effective use of spacing, alignment, and visual hierarchy, while successfully accommodating large volumes of content and ensuring clarity and visual appeal. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills in Adobe InDesign, a methodical eye for chart and data presentation, and the discipline to deliver error-free, ready-to-publish work.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce white papers, presentations, brochures, forms, event invitations, employee biographies, and related marketing collateral in InDesign, working from approved templates and style sheets.
- Design and implement brand-ready data visualizations using live data in charts, graphs, and infographics across various applications. Use problem-solving skills to translate complex data into clear visual communications and develop solutions for creating sophisticated chart types.
- Apply consistent chart standards—axis treatment, gridlines, legends, date formats, colors, and typography—in line with established brand and graph guidelines.
- Ensure all design elements meet ADA color-contrast and accessibility standards.
- Format copy produced by the content team within InDesign, maintaining brand-compliant typography, spacing, and layout.
- Prepare and export print- and web-ready files, including interactive PDFs where required, and coordinate with print vendors on production and shipping.
- Perform thorough quality assurance and proofing on every deliverable, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and tight adherence to brand guidelines and design checklists.
- Communicate regularly with piece owners—acknowledging requests, providing status updates, and setting realistic delivery timelines across a shifting queue.
- Manage and update digital assets within content management (CMS) and digital asset management (DAM) systems, and submit marketing pieces for compliance review and approval.
- Support annual and periodic updates to product-related documents and marketing materials, and assist with rebranding projects and tool enhancements.
- Provide design and production support to other team members as needed, prioritizing effectively across concurrent requests.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong, demonstrable proficiency in Adobe InDesign, including working from templates and style sheets, and building charts and tables natively in InDesign and PowerPoint.
- Solid experience creating and updating charts, graphs, and data visualizations, with attention to accuracy, consistency, and adherence to established graph/brand guidelines.
- Proficiency across the broader Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) plus PowerPoint and Excel for supporting chart data and production tasks.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a disciplined self-proofing/QA habit.
- Ability to follow written instructions thoroughly and to communicate clearly and proactively with piece owners and teammates.
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Visual Communications, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 0–2 years of professional design experience (internships or freelance work welcome).
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and an eye for effective design and data visualization.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment and prioritize a shifting queue.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience in compliance processes for marketing materials is a plus.
Preferred Skills
- Advanced charting/data-visualization skills and knowledge of ADA color-contrast best practices.
- Experience in a corporate or financial services environment and understanding of brand governance.
- Familiarity with interactive PDF production, print-vendor coordination, and basic HTML/CSS.
- Experience with content management systems (CMS) and digital asset management (DAM) platforms.
- Comfort adopting AI tools for marketing content generation and production efficiency.
