Principal Test Development Engineer
Location: Limerick, Ireland
Business Unit: Precision Signal Chain, Back-End Measurement Team
The Group:
The charter of ADI's Precision Signal Chain (PSC) organisation is to deliver industry-leading precision measurement, signal conditioning and isolation solutions that bridge the physical and digital worlds. PSC products enable accurate sensing, measurement and control across a broad range of instrumentation, industrial automation, healthcare and emerging intelligent edge applications. The PSC Back-End Measurement Team plays a critical role in bringing these technologies from concept to high-volume production through world-class test and evaluation solutions offering the successful candidate a great opportunity for continuous career development as part of a highly motivated and supportive team.
The Position:
The Precision Signal Chain Back-End (PSC BE) Measurement Team at Analog Devices is seeking an experienced Principal Test Development Engineer to join the team in Limerick, Ireland.
This Principal-level position is intended for a senior technical leader with deep semiconductor test development expertise and the ability to lead complex product programmes from concept through high-volume manufacturing release. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across multiple development programmes, defining and driving test strategies for precision mixed-signal products while influencing product execution, measurement methodologies and engineering best practices across the wider PSC Back-End organisation.
The role requires both strong hands-on technical capability and the ability to influence direction across Design, Design Evaluation, Product Engineering, Applications, Quality and Manufacturing teams. The successful candidate will be expected to solve complex measurement and test challenges, lead technical decision-making within their area of expertise, and contribute to the continuous advancement of PSC test and measurement capabilities.
This role may require occasional travel to ADI development sites, manufacturing locations and customer facilities to support product development, technology transfer and technical engagements (typically up to 10%).
Role and Responsibilities:
- Lead the definition and execution of test strategies for complex precision analog and mixed-signal products from concept through production release.
- Develop innovative and cost-effective probe and final test solutions on advanced mixed-signal ATE platforms.
- Drive product quality, manufacturability and test efficiency through the development of robust test methodologies, production test limits, release criteria and characterisation strategies informed by statistical analysis and manufacturing capability studies.
- Influence design-for-test (DFT), testability and production test strategies through close collaboration with Design and Evaluation teams.
- Influence product, design and evaluation decisions through deep understanding of measurement systems, test methodologies and manufacturing requirements.
- Partner with Design, Design Evaluation, Product Engineering, Quality and Manufacturing teams to resolve complex technical challenges and ensure successful product execution.
- Lead technical reviews, identify development risks and drive mitigation plans across multiple projects.
- Drive successful transfer of production test solutions into high-volume manufacturing while supporting yield improvement, product quality and production readiness across global manufacturing sites.
- Provide technical leadership across multiple product programmes, mentor engineers and drive continuous advancement of test and measurement methodologies, reusable frameworks and engineering best practices across the PSC Back-End organisation.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering or related discipline.
- Typically 12+ years of semiconductor industry experience with significant experience in semi-conductor test development.
- Strong ATE development experience on Teradyne, Advantest, NI STS or equivalent mixed-signal test platforms.
- Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and influence decision-making across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Deep understanding of semiconductor product development, including characterisation, qualification, production test strategy, manufacturing release and yield improvement.
- Strong knowledge of precision analog and mixed-signal circuits, measurement techniques and bench instrumentation.
- Excellent analytical, communication and technical leadership skills, with the ability to solve complex engineering challenges through data-driven decision making.
Preferred Experience:
- Development of production test solutions for precision signal chain products such as ADCs, DACs, amplifiers, references or power management devices.
- Experience with DFT methodologies, simulation-based test development, virtual ATE environments or pre-silicon test verification.
- Familiarity with mixed-signal hardware development including load boards, evaluation systems, PCB design and associated CAD/simulation tools.
- Experience correlating bench, evaluation and ATE measurement environments to ensure robust product characterisation and production readiness.
- Software development experience using C/C++, Visual Basic or LabVIEW within test and measurement environments.
- Demonstrated technical leadership through mentoring, project leadership or the development of engineering methodologies and best practices.
