Senior Electrical Lead TechnicianJob Description Summary
The Electrical Maintenance Lead oversees the electrical maintenance program for mission-critical data center infrastructure. This role ensures preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities support uptime, preserve system redundancy, and meet safety and regulatory requirements. Serving as the technical lead for UPS systems, generators, switchgear, and electrical distribution, the position plans maintenance outages, approves procedures, supports testing, leads root cause analysis, and develops lifecycle strategies. The role partners with operations, engineering, reliability, and vendors to reduce maintenance risk and improve electrical system performance.Job Description
- Manage and continuously improve the electrical PM, PdM, and CM program for UPS systems, generators, switchgear, PDUs, STSs, and related distribution equipment.
- Serve as the technical authority for electrical maintenance, ensuring all work preserves redundancy and avoids single points of failure.
- Develop, review, and approve electrical SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs; ensure procedural compliance and effective change management.
- Plan and approve switching procedures and maintenance outages, including isolation, back feed, and re-energization activities.
- Oversee electrical testing programs, including infrared thermography, relay testing, breaker maintenance, NETA-style testing, and battery testing.
- Lead root cause investigations for electrical trips, faults, and abnormal conditions; track corrective actions to closure.
- Maintain CMMS data quality for electrical assets, including scope, frequency, procedures, and asset hierarchy accuracy.
- Coordinate vendor scopes, supervision, QA/QC, deliverables, and maintenance documentation.
- Review protection schemes, coordination studies, and settings to verify proper device operation after maintenance.
- Support commissioning and recommissioning activities, including witness testing and turnover documentation.
- Monitor post-maintenance performance, including alarms, load balance, harmonics, temperatures, and other risk indicators.
- Support load analysis, capacity planning, load transfers, and growth initiatives.
- Identify aging assets and recommend lifecycle replacement and capital planning priorities based on condition and performance data.
- Ensure compliance with LOTO, arc flash, NFPA 70E, NEC, OSHA, and applicable electrical safety requirements.
- Align maintenance windows with operations to reduce risk and maintain service continuity.
- Provide technical leadership, training, and competency development for electrical technicians, including switching qualifications.
- Support audits, inspections, and client reviews; communicate program performance and corrective actions.
- Drive continuous improvement through KPI management, reliability initiatives, and reduction of repeat failures.
Requirements
- 5–8 years of electrical maintenance experience in critical facilities or other high-availability environments.
- Experience leading maintenance programs, technical teams, or vendor work in mission-critical operations.
- Strong knowledge of CMMS planning, execution, and asset data governance.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, one-lines, procedures, and technical documentation.
- Proven troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills in high-availability environments.
- Working knowledge of NFPA, OSHA, NEC, and applicable electrical safety standards.
- Experience coordinating vendors, reviewing scopes, and validating maintenance deliverables.
- Ability to support 24/7 operations, including on-call rotations as needed.
- Relevant certifications or licenses preferred, such as electrical trade license, CDCP, DCEP, or related technical credentials.
