Description
This is a hands-on technical leadership seat. The team is small and delivery-focused, and the organisation needs a player-coach who can raise engineering quality while still shipping personally.
As Lead Software Developer, you will design and code most of the week while providing light people leadership for a junior engineer and a contractor. You will set technical direction, protect delivery quality, mentor day-to-day, and collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners.
The brief is not a pure people-management role. Roughly 80% design and coding and 20% people leadership is the expected shape. A strong hire will own meaningful production delivery in a C# / .NET environment, strengthen architecture and engineering practices, and help a small team deliver reliable software with confidence.
If you want a lead role where your technical judgement still shows up in the codebase every week — this is that opportunity.
Profile for Success
- Demonstrated 5+ years building and supporting production software, with recent depth in C# / .NET.
- Evidence of leading or mentoring engineers while remaining hands-on — not a manager who left the codebase years ago.
- Track record shipping product or platform work end-to-end: design, implementation, quality, release, and support.
- Practical strength in APIs, data stores (SQL and/or NoSQL), Git, CI/CD, testing, and secure coding.
- Comfortable making architecture and design-pattern decisions and explaining the trade-offs.
- Experience collaborating with stakeholders and external partners in a commercial delivery environment.
- Prefer Azure-cloud exposure and modern .NET delivery practices.
- Matric plus tertiary degree/diploma (or equivalent proven capability).
- 5+ years software development experience.
- Experience leading a team or acting as a technical lead / player-coach.
- Strong C# / .NET production capability (must-have).
- Solid SDLC, SOLID/design patterns, REST APIs, Git, CI/CD, and unit/multi-layer testing exposure.
- Ability to mentor, hold a quality bar, and communicate clearly.
