Description

The Bogus Basin Winter Mountain Dispatch works in a fast-paced job environment with many moving parts. The ideal candidate for this job would be able to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously, and be able to clearly and calmly communicate with their team of patrollers, mountain operational staff, and external agencies to send the appropriate resources and personnel to various incidents throughout the Bogus Basin Recreational Area. This position is active for the winter operating season.

Essential Functions of the Job

As a Dispatcher for Bogus Basin, you will:

• Be the central hub for all mountain dispatch requests.
• Be responsible for dispatching appropriate department personnel to incident response calls anywhere at Bogus Basin.
• Communicate via phone, radio, and in person with various 911 Dispatch Centers, Law, Fire, EMS, SAR, and helicopter resources.
• Perform as the main Dispatcher for chair lift evacuations.
• Oversee medical care for patients who are in the aid room and require additional assistance.
• Effectively use provided resources to handle multiple incident response calls simultaneously.
• Have the ability to handle multiple patients in the aid room and the ability to appropriately triage patients.
• Assist patrollers working in the aid room with their patients.
• Use prior medical training and knowledge to effectively and appropriately provide basic life support and first aid care to patients, working within the current National Ski Patrol Outdoor Emergency Care standard of care.
• Be able to make quick and appropriate decisions to provide the correct additional resources in emergency medical situations.
• Keep detailed, time-sensitive documentation for incident response calls.
• Assist patrollers to complete their patient care reports in a timely manner.
• Oversee and review all incident documentation for accuracy and thoroughness.
• Assist or lead incident investigations as required.
• Assist with on-the-hill patient extrication and transport.

Non-Essential Functions of the Job

• Facilitate openings and closings on the mountain
• Assist other departments to communicate and locate the appropriate resources to perform their functions.
• Assist in the preparation and execution of special events.
• Perform other duties, as required.

Requirements

A Bogus Basin Mountain Dispatcher must:

• Be passionate about Bogus Basin’s Mission to engage with the community to provide accessible, affordable, and fun year-round mountain recreation and education.
• Be certified as an Outdoor Emergency Care Technician by the National Ski Patrol, or have an EMT-B (or higher) by the start of the Winter season in November.
• Maintain a valid and current BLS-CPR for Healthcare Professionals or above.
• Have a valid and current driver’s license.
• Be able to occasionally lift up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift 50 pounds overhead.
• Interact effectively with the public, offering guidance and advice to the use of the area.
• Be proficient with Microsoft Office and Google suite of tools. Be familiar with mapping softwares such as Google Earth, CalTopo, Gaia GPS, and/or Avenza.
• Pass a background check.
• Be available to work mid-November through mid-May.

Ideal candidates would also:

• Have previous dispatch experience
• Have emergency medical experience
• Already exhibit strong communication skills
• Have the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment meeting multiple demands.

Working Conditions

• Indoor and outdoor, mountain environment; occasionally exposed to inclement weather and adverse conditions.
• Shifts available days or nights, full-time or part-time. A minimum of 2 years of dispatch experience is required to be considered for part-time work.
