We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Children's health Fayetteville  clinical team. This role plays a critical part in delivering high-quality patient care while supporting providers in a fast-paced pediatric clinic environment.

Position Details:

• Status: Full-time
• Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
• Rotating Saturdays: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00p.m.

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) delivers advanced pediatric nursing care, clinical coordination, and patient/family education in an outpatient pediatric setting. The RN supports providers, oversees clinical workflow, ensures regulatory and safety compliance, and serves as a clinical resource and mentor to support staff.

Key Responsibilities – Clinical Duties

- Greet and room pediatric patients; obtain age-appropriate vital signs, growth measurements (height/length, weight, head circumference, BMI percentile), and medical history.

- Perform nursing assessments within scope of practice and document findings in the EMR.

- Administer childhood immunizations following CDC/ACIP guidelines and verify proper documentation of VIS sheets.

- Administer medications orally, intramuscularly, intradermally, and subcutaneously as ordered by the provider.

- Perform point-of-care testing (flu, strep, RSV, mono, glucose, urinalysis, etc.).

- May assist with or perform phlebotomy and collect lab specimens using pediatric-appropriate techniques.

- May perform of assist Provider with complex pediatric clinical tasks including catheterization, nebulizer treatments, wound care, suture removal, and splinting.

- Conduct pediatric hearing and vision screenings.

- Provide age-appropriate education to parents and patients related to medications, chronic condition management, treatment plans, and follow-up care.

- Maintain infection control, sterilization procedures, and proper handling of pediatric medical equipment.

- Monitor and document vaccine refrigerator/freezer temperatures and comply with VFC guidelines if applicable.

- Respond to pediatric emergencies according to office protocol and participate in routine emergency drills.

- Triage pediatric patients in-office and via phone to determine urgency and appropriate care needs.

- Document all care in the EMR accurately and timely.

- Notify the Health Department promptly of any reportable infectious diseases.

Key Responsibilities – Care Coordination & Leadership

- Serve as a clinical leader and resource to LPNs, Medical Assistants, and students.

- Support onboarding and skills validation for new clinical staff.

- Oversee patient flow and ensure high-quality, child-centered experiences.

- Monitor and maintain Vaccine for Children (VFC) compliance including temperature logs and handling.

- Assist with medical emergency response planning and drills.

- Participate in quality improvement, reporting, and regulatory audits.

- Assist with policy, clinical protocol, and workflow development.

Key Responsibilities – Administrative Duties

- Manage patient flow efficiently and inform parents of any expected wait times.

- May assist with scheduling well-child visits, immunizations, sick visits, and follow-up appointments.

- Complete medication refills, prior authorizations, and referrals to pediatric specialists.

- Answer parent calls, return messages, and assist with EMR-based communication.

- Complete school, daycare, camp, and sports forms in coordination with providers.

- May be responsible for maintaining inventory and stocking of clinical supplies 

- May be expected to verify insurance coverage as needed.

- Call in prescriptions, obtain prior authorizations, and coordinate referrals to pediatric specialists.

- Track immunization records and assist with school/daycare forms.

Pediatric-Specific Competencies

- Demonstrate calming, child-friendly communication and behavioral techniques to reduce fear or anxiety.

- Support developmental screening processes (ASQ, MCHAT, etc.) if used in the practice.

- Assist with chronic pediatric conditions such as asthma, eczema, ADHD, and allergies.

- Ensure safety during all interactions, including with infants, toddlers, and special-needs pediatric patients.

Other Duties

- Participate in continuing education and required pediatric training.

- Assist during high-volume seasons (flu, RSV, back-to-school).

- Perform opening and closing clinic duties as assigned.

- Maintain HIPAA, OSHA, CLIA, and state nursing regulations.

- Perform any additional duties assigned by Providers, Nursing Leadership, or Administration.

Requirements

Qualifications

- Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.

- Active RN license in good standing with the NC Nursing Board.

- Pediatric or family practice experience preferred.

- Current BLS certification.

- Proficiency with electronic medical records.

- Strong understanding of pediatric immunizations, clinical procedures, and nursing protocols.

Work Environment

- Outpatient pediatric clinic setting.

- May require occasional travel between practice locations.

- Confidential handling of patient information is required at all times.

- Rotation of weekend clinics may be required.

Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching and lifting (babies and small children, etc.). Work conditions include contact with patients in controlled environment, potentially contagious diseases and possibly bloodborne pathogens.
