OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW
Pacific Cancer Care (PCC) is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to serve as the practice's senior financial executive. PCC is a growing, physician-led medical oncology practice with locations in Monterey and Los Gatos, and a third site opening in Gilroy in August 2026. The CFO will build and lead PCC's finance function — including accounting, revenue cycle, budgeting, and capital planning — while partnering with practice and physician leadership through this next phase of growth. The ideal candidate combines deep healthcare finance expertise with the versatility to build infrastructure from the ground up and the executive presence to operate as a peer to the CEO and physician leadership.

ESSENTIAL ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

It is every team member's responsibility to contribute to our safe, healthy, harmonious, positive, productive and professional work environment and culture.

Strategic & Executive Financial Leadership

  • Serve as the practice's chief financial executive, partnering with the CEO, Medical Director, and physician leadership to translate strategic priorities into financial plans, targets, and accountabilities.
  • Own full P&L visibility and financial performance across all PCC locations and service lines (infusion, lab, PET/CT, radiation oncology); provide physician partners with clear, timely insight into financial results and drivers.
  • Lead long-range financial planning, capital investment analysis, and business case development for new sites, service lines, and equipment (e.g., PET/CT and radiation oncology capital assets).
  • Lead financial planning and readiness for the Gilroy site opening (August 2026) and future site expansion, including staffing, budget, and go-live financial coordination.
  • Represent PCC in strategic and growth discussions, including new site development, payor strategy, and potential tuck-in or affiliation opportunities.

Finance Team Build-Out & Accounting Operations

  • Assess the current finance/accounting structure and design, build, and lead the finance organization needed to support a growing, multi-site practice — including hiring decisions as the practice grows.
  • Lead the local accounting function and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting, collaborating with OneOncology's finance team as needed.
  • Direct the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting across all sites, including variance analysis and performance-to-target reporting.
  • Own cash management, banking relationships, and treasury functions for the practice; ensure adequate liquidity for practice and physician compensation obligations.
  • Revenue Cycle & Financial Performance
  • Own executive oversight of the revenue cycle, including billing, coding, collections, denials management, and patient financial services, ensuring optimal reimbursement across all service lines.
  • Monitor and drive improvement in key revenue cycle and financial KPIs (e.g., days in A/R, denial rates, cash collections, payor mix) across all sites.
  • Review payor and vendor contracts, including managed care and capitated arrangements, and provide financial analysis to support negotiations.
  • Monitor labor productivity, cost per site, and service-line profitability; lead financial improvement initiatives across locations.

Physician Compensation & Compliance

  • Lead physician and partner compensation strategy, including modeling, variable compensation design, and distribution calculations.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and regulatory/financial compliance readiness, including documentation and audit support.
  • Ensure sound accounting policies and procedures across all sites, consistent with GAAP, FASB, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Collaboration, Communication & Partnership

  • Serve as PCC's primary point of contact with OneOncology on accounting and finance matters, maintaining a strong, collaborative working relationship.
  • Translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insight for the CEO, physician partners, and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Maintain regular engagement across PCC's Monterey, Los Gatos, and (upon opening) Gilroy locations to build relationships and understand site-level financial needs.
  • Partner with physician leadership, the CEO, Practice Administrator, and operational leadership to align financial planning with staffing, space, and resource decisions.

DESIRED COMPETENCIES AND CHARACTERISTICS

  • Financial Mastery: Deep knowledge and understanding of GAAP, regulatory compliance, tax laws, and rigorous forecasting.
  • Strategic Vision: Ability to connect daily numbers to long-term business goals.
  • Risk Management: Skill in assessing financial exposure objectively without blocking healthy business ventures.
  • Operational Insight: Understanding the internal value chain and how other departments function.

DESIRED LEADERSHIP QUALITIES

  • Transparent Communication: Translating complex financial data into plain insights for the partners, leadership team and non-financial peers.
  • Integrity: Upholding strict ethical standards and building institutional trust.
  • Collaboration: Partnering effectively with the CEO to achieve financial health for the organization.

DESIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master's or active CPA license  preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive finance leadership experience preferred, including 3+ years in a CFO, Controller, or senior finance leadership role; healthcare, oncology, multi-site ambulatory, or physician practice experience
  • Experience building or scaling a finance/accounting function, ideally in a growing, multi-site healthcare organization
  • Experience with full P&L ownership, capital planning, and multi-year financial strategy in a healthcare setting
  • Experience overseeing revenue cycle functions (billing, coding, collections, denials management) in a physician practice or ambulatory setting.
  • Strong working knowledge of healthcare regulatory requirements, and payor/managed care contracting, including capitated and value-based arrangements.
  • Experience developing physician/partner compensation models and variable incentive structures.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and executive presence; ability to translate financial detail into strategic guidance for physician and non-financial leadership.
  • Experience with EHR/practice management systems, financial reporting systems, and KPI/analytics dashboards.
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

PHYSICAL FACTORS:

The physical abilities required of the person in this position may include the following:

  • Vision sufficient to read handwritten, typed and computer documents
  • Speech and hearing sufficient to receive and communicate detailed information clearly by phone and in person with diverse audiences
  • Motor skills sufficient to reach, lift, bend, and handle, use or operate computer terminal, fax machine, copier, telephone, files, and other materials
  • Physical ability to sit, stand or otherwise remain stationary for long periods of time

This position description is intended to convey information essential to understanding the scope of the position and is not exhaustive. Duties, responsibilities, and qualifications may change as the needs of the practice evolve.
