The Department of Transportation (DOT) plans, develops, operates, and maintains transportation facilities, services, and related systems which contribute to the livability and economic health of the City. The Department of Transportation is currently seeking to fill multiple vacancies in the Infrastructure Maintenance division. Salary range(s) for this classification is/are: 
•Construction Inspector I: $78,514.80 – $95,659.20
•Construction Inspector II: $88,866.96 - $108,217.20
•Associate Inspector: $100,332.96 - $121,954.56


This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience. 


Inspection and Contract Management

Construction Inspector’s key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Contract management, spending/tracking budget appropriations, and contractor coordination efforts
• Reviewing and verifying accuracy of invoices
• Preparing documents to pay contractor invoices
• Visually inspecting projects
• Validating work of contractors in the field
• Maintaining daily inspection logs and photos
• Ensuring all work is completed according to City of San Jose standards and specifications
• Coordinating new projects with Public Works inspectors and DOT’s structure & Landscape Designer
• Mitigating conflicts with residents, businesses and contractors


Construction Inspector I:  Completion of high school or equivalent (General Education Development [GED] Test or California Proficiency Certificate).

Construction Inspector II
• Education: Completion of high school or equivalent (General Education Development [GED] Test or California Proficiency Certificate) AND
• Experience: Two (2) years of construction trades or construction inspection experience.

Associate Construction Inspector
• Education: Completion of high school or equivalent (General Education Development [GED] Test or California Proficiency Certificate) AND
• Experience: Four (4) years of construction trades or construction inspection experience, including two (2) years in any combination of the following: construction or infrastructure inspection, drafting or reviewing plans and specifications,  materials sampling and testing, traffic engineering, or surveying. 
• Acceptable Substitution: Completion of an Associate Degree in engineering technology, construction management or closely related field from an accredited junior college or two (2) years of college coursework in engineering technology or related subjects courses may be substituted for two (2) years of the construction trades or construction inspection experience.

Certification/Licenses
Possession of a valid State of California driver's license.

Selection Process
The selection process will consist of an evaluation of the applicant's training and experience based on the application and responses to all the job specific questions. Only those candidates whose backgrounds best match the position will be invited to proceed in the selection process. Additional phases of the selection process will consist of one or more interviews.

If selected, the Conditional Offer of Employment may be contingent upon you providing proof of a valid State of California driver’s license, and an assessment of your California DMV Employer Pull Notice (EPN) as per the DMV Release of Driver Record Information form. Failure to pass the DMV Pull Notice assessment will deem you ineligible for employment.
