Description
Our Global Tax team is hiring an experienced Tax Manager within our Federal Tax Accounting and Reporting Team. This position will have a vital role in the end-to-end preparation, review, and filing of our Consolidated Federal Tax Return and all related cross-border tax schedules, as well as certain aspects of the quarterly tax provision process.
The ideal candidate blends technical mastery of complex tax law with sharp analytical instincts, strong project leadership, and clear communication skills, the ability to multi-task and prioritize various projects at once, attention to details and a desire for problem solving. Beyond compliance, this position will support the Planning Team in advising operational leaders and business teams, evaluating the tax implications of new commercial initiatives, business transactions, and day-to-day operations while ensuring full statutory alignment with evolving federal tax law. Position reports directly to the Director, Federal Tax Accounting and Reporting
Responsibilities of the Tax Manager—Federal Accounting and Reporting:
Manage the Federal tax return and provision processes, including reviewing book/tax differences, various reconciliations and analyses, and utilizing OneSource software to complete various processes
Handle routine U.S. cross-border reporting requirements and associated international schedules (e.g., Forms 5471/5472) connected to the annual federal filing, keeping international tax aspects aligned with core U.S. compliance
Identify and assist with the implementation of process/system improvements related to the return and provision processes, specifically leveraging Gemini AI tools
Review of quarterly estimated payments and annual extensions
Manage monthly tax credit capacity forecasting
Assist with internal and external control documentation & testing
Research and/or review internal documentation to support tax compliance and planning positions
Willingness to travel as needed
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or military experience
At least 5 years of experience in corporate tax compliance within a public company, an accounting firm, or a combination
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s of Science in Tax
Certified Public Accounting (CPA) Certification
Tax experience in a Big 4 public accounting firm or financial services environment
Software proficiency in OneSource, Alteryx, BNA Fixed Assets and Research
Experience with Gemini or similar AI tools
1+ year of experience managing indirect or direct reports

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $151,900 - $173,400 for Manager, Tax
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
