Functional Analyst

Overview

The Application Functional Analyst is responsible for the ongoing management, functional support, maintenance, and continuous improvement of project controls and governance applications, including Primavera P6 Cloud, Primavera P6 On-Premises, EcoSys, CostX and Comaea. The role acts as the primary liaison between business users, vendors, support teams, and IT stakeholders to ensure applications remain reliable, supportable, and aligned with business needs.

This role combines functional expertise, application lifecycle management, vendor coordination, upgrade management, testing, and Level 3 support responsibilities.

Your Role

Roles & Responsibilities

• Act as the functional lead for assigned project controls and governance applications, ensuring systems remain aligned with business processes, delivery needs, and technology standards.
• Coordinate upgrades, patches, releases, and vendor-led changes, including impact assessments, testing, communications, and business readiness activities.
• Work with application vendors, database teams, infrastructure teams, cybersecurity, and business stakeholders to coordinate initiatives such as database consolidation, environment rationalisation, and application modernisation.
• Provide Level 3 functional support for complex issues, working with technical teams and vendors to investigate root causes, recommend workarounds, and implement long-term corrective actions.
• Participate in solution testing, release validation, and deployment activities.
• Maintain strong relationships with project controls, estimating, scheduling, finance, governance, and operational teams using the applications.
• Ensure application documentation, support models, configuration records, and knowledge articles remain accurate and usable by IT and business stakeholders.

Application Ownership & Functional Support

• Provide advanced functional support for Primavera P6 Cloud, Primavera P6 On-Premises, EcoSys, CostX and Comaea.
• Investigate and resolve complex application issues.
• Analyze application behaviour, workflow execution, and data-related issues.
• Escalate software defects and coordinate resolution activities with vendors.

Vendor & Upgrade Management

• Coordinate software upgrades, patches, hotfixes, and release activities.
• Review release notes and assess impacts on business operations.
• Facilitate testing and user validation efforts.
• Manage application vendor relationships and service requests.

Testing & Change Management

• Develop and execute functional test plans and validation scenarios.
• Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and release readiness activities.
• Validate configurations and ensure system stability after deployments.
• Coordinate production rollouts and post-release support.

Configuration & Continuous Improvement

• Support application configurations and workflow changes.
• Recommend improvements that enhance usability, efficiency, and supportability.
• Maintain system documentation, configuration records, and operational procedures.
• Share knowledge with support teams and business users.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Support business users with application guidance and best practices.
• Collaborate with Project Controls, Estimating, Commercial, and Delivery teams.
• Participate in governance meetings and vendor discussions.
• Provide impact assessments and recommendations for application-related decisions.

About You

Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, Project Management, or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Engineering, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise business applications.
• Experience supporting project controls, scheduling, estimating, or project governance systems.
• Experience coordinating vendor-managed applications.
• Experience managing upgrades, testing, deployments, and release activities.
• Experience troubleshooting application configuration, workflow, and data issues.
• Experience working with hybrid support models involving IT, vendors, and business stakeholders.

• Strong functional analysis and problem-solving skills, with the ability to understand both business process and application behavior.
• Ability to bridge business needs, vendor capabilities, and IT delivery constraints in a practical and solution-oriented way.
• Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical audiences.
• Organized and structured approach to releases, testing, documentation, issue management, and follow-up.
• Good understanding of project controls, project lifecycle, governance, scheduling, estimating, cost management, or EPCM delivery environments.
• Ability to manage ambiguity and turn operational issues into clear actions, decisions, and improvement opportunities.
• Client-focused mindset with the ability to balance business value, system stability, governance, and long-term maintainability.
• Comfortable working in a global, cross-functional environment with internal teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.
