Role
We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and highly motivated Director of Finance to join Janu Tokyo. This role is ideal for an accomplished finance professional who thrives in a modern luxury hospitality environment and brings strong commercial awareness, leadership capability and a high level of integrity to the role. As Director of Finance, you will lead and oversee the Finance Department, ensuring effective financial management, strong internal controls, accurate reporting and compliance with corporate, owner, hotel and statutory requirements. Working closely with the General Manager, Corporate Office, Owner and department leaders, you will provide insightful financial guidance that supports sound decision-making and the long-term success of Janu Tokyo.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Finance Department, overseeing all financial activities and ensuring effective, efficient and well-controlled finance operations
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end closing, financial reporting, account reconciliations and financial analysis
- Ensure compliance with corporate, owner, and hotel financial standards, policies, procedures and internal control requirements
- Prepare and coordinate annual operating budgets, capital expenditure budgets, cash flow budgets and rolling cash flow forecasts
- Monitor financial performance, budget variances, cash position, and working capital, providing appropriate analysis and recommendations to the General Manager
- Oversee tax matters, statutory reporting, tax filings, payments and compliance with applicable local requirements
- Manage and maintain accounting records, financial documents, contracts, licenses and other documentation in accordance with legal and corporate requirements
- Coordinate and support internal and external audits, including the preparation of financial documentation and follow-up on audit recommendations and agreed adjustments
- Lead, develop, and support the Finance Team through effective supervision, training, communication, cross-training and succession planning
- Provide financial support and advice to the General Manager, Corporate Office, and Owner, including special reports, financial analysis, ROI projections and special projects as required
- Promote a culture of financial discipline, accountability, confidentiality and continuous improvement across the hotel
- Partner with operational departments to provide commercial insights and support informed business and operational decisions
Responsibilities
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in a similar Finance leadership position, preferably within a luxury hotel or hospitality environment
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field
- Strong knowledge of financial management, accounting principles, and hotel finance operations
- Advanced business-level Japanese proficiency (CEFR C1 or higher)
- Advanced business-level English proficiency (CEFR C1 or higher)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in both Japanese and English
- Solid experience in month-end and year-end closing, financial reporting, account reconciliation and financial analysis
- Strong knowledge and experience in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and monitoring financial performance
- Good understanding of internal controls, corporate policies, statutory requirements, taxation, and audit processes
- Strong leadership and people-management skills, with the ability to supervise, develop, train and motivate a Finance Team
- Strong attention to detail, organisation, integrity, and confidentiality when handling sensitive financial information
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, meet strict deadlines, and support management with financial analysis and special projects as required
