Custodial Services has an outstanding opportunity for a Custodian Supervisor 1 to join our team.
About the Opportunity
Our department delivers custodial services to the UW campus that provides exceptionally clean and sanitary environments for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Reporting to the Custodial Manager, the Custodian Supervisor 1 is responsible for performing all custodial duties as required to provide clean and sanitary spaces.
This position is for a full-time Custodian at the University of Washington Seattle Campus with hours of Monday through Friday, 5:00 am – 1:30 pm.
Key Responsibilities - 100%
- Determine staffing needs of assigned buildings; analyze workloads and assign work to employees;
- Assign building keys to custodial staff and maintain key security;
- Maintain compliance with applicable policies and procedures;
- Inspect buildings to determine cleaning needs and job assignments;
- Prepare reports related to the custodial services, such as building inventories and custodial procedures;
- Oversee performance of special cleaning projects;
- Carry pager/portable radio to maintain communications;
- Ensure that power cleaning equipment is maintained in proper working order;
- Identify, report, and take corrective action to resolve custodial problems; report and act upon building security, maintenance, and potential safety hazards;
- Evaluate, order inventory and maintain stock of custodial supplies; recommend the need for equipment;
- Conduct safety meetings and train subordinates; enforce safety rules and regulations; investigate accidents and incidents and fill out accident/incident reports;
- Attend meetings and training as required;
- Perform related duties as required
This position performs essential services and may be required to work during any period of declared suspended operation.
Required Qualifications

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification and/or registration.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants who do not meet these qualifications WILL NOT be forwarded to the Hiring Manager.
- One (1) year of experience as a Custodian Lead or Hospital Custodian Lead.
Additional Qualifications
- Proven strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to build and maintain a strong team and customer service-oriented organization.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including those required to create reports, conduct meetings, and train personnel as well as the ability to work well with others.
- Experience inspecting buildings to determine cleaning needs and analyzing workloads.
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Familiar with MS Word and Excel.
- Willingness to learn and use other computer related software.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
- Must be able to follow written and/or verbal instructions and communicate in English regarding the use of chemicals, supplies, and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic computer skills
- Experience supervising custodial staff in a large institution
- Possession of a valid Washington State Driver’s License or a license recognized as valid by the State of Washington and two years driving experience.
Working Conditions
- Physical ability to do required work.
- Must be able to work in a non-smoking environment.
- Regular and predictable attendance is required.
