THE STAFF ACCOUNTANT POSITION
SunStrong Management is searching for a Staff Accountant to support the accounting for its community and utility scale solar portfolios, including the proper cost accounting of solar energy systems and the proper revenue treatment of systems sold directly to our customers or to home builders. The role owns a defined set of month-end and quarter-end close tasks, prepares and posts journal entries, completes account reconciliations across a high volume of legal entities, and processes large transaction data sets across multiple systems.

The role owns a defined set of month-end and quarter-end close tasks, prepares and posts journal entries, completes account reconciliations across a high volume of legal entities, and processes large transaction data sets across multiple systems.
STAFF ACCOUNTANT RESPONSIBILITIES
- Handles day-to-day cash activity, including posting and reconciling cash receipts and disbursements across multiple bank accounts and entities
- Manages accounts receivable and accounts payable activity, including AR and AP aging reconciliations and follow-up on past-due, unapplied, and unmatched items
- Maintains fixed asset and solar system asset records, including additions, transfers, retirements, and monthly depreciation
- Owns assigned month-end and quarter-end close tasks to the published close calendar, including accruals and cut-off review
- Prepares, reviews, and posts journal entries with complete supporting documentation
- Prepares balance sheet account reconciliations and clears aged or unexplained items ahead of close sign-off
- Processes and reconciles large transaction data sets — installer payables, customer billing, and asset-level activity — across multiple systems
- Builds and maintains Excel workpapers supporting high-volume, multi-entity reconciliation and data processing
- Prepares monthly and quarterly financial statements and the supporting schedules used for management, lender, and investor reporting
- Prepares audit and review workpapers and requested schedules, pulls supporting documentation and samples, and responds to internal and external auditor requests through resolution
- Supports project cost accounting, including labor and material work order analysis, timely work order setup and closure with the Operations team, system-level cost assignment, and Accounts Payable PO matching so installers and material distributors are paid on schedule
- Completes other necessary duties as assigned
- 3+ years' accounting experience, including month-end close, journal entry preparation, and account reconciliations
- An undergraduate degree with an accounting concentration
- Demonstrated ability to work with large data sets and high transaction volumes in Excel and an ERP environment
- Experience in cost accounting
- Experience supporting external audits or reviews, including preparation of audit schedules and PBC requests
- Experience in the renewable energy space — community or utility scale solar strongly preferred, other solar and renewable experience also relevant
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics, Sage Intact, or a comparable multi-entity ERP
- Experience with data tools such as Power Query, pivot tables, or SQL for processing large transaction volumes, preferred
- Experience working with voluminous legal entities and intercompany transactions
- Impeccable integrity: words and actions must continually reinforce this characteristic
- A team player with knowledge and experience in US generally accepted accounting principles and a successful track record meeting deadlines, increasing efficiency, identifying issues and resolving
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including lookups, pivot tables, and manipulation of large data sets
- Open-office environment
