This position is a 3rd shift position with the work hours being 12AM-8AM Monday through Friday.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for assisting in the performance of preventative maintenance & repairs on all plant equipment and facilities including hydraulic machines, presses, shears, cranes, welders, mechanical clutches, drive trains, etc.
  • Responsible for assisting in the repair of worn parts, straightens and fabricates fixtures. Makes new installation of equipment and performs major repairs/replacements.
  • Seek opportunities for efficiencies and improvements within the maintenance department.
  • Assists with the proper install of equipment ensuring that necessary safety standards are adhered to.
  • Perform and/or assist with maintenance tasks according to production needs to minimize downtime.
  • Support manufacturing demands including working during non-peak hours (e.g., off-shifts, holidays, weekends, etc.) as required/assigned).
  • Respond to on-duty emergency requests and after-hours call-ins.
  • Assists in the performance of strategic preventative maintenance; continuous improvement of maintenance systems and practices.
  • Assists in the performance of general maintenance tasks including buildings, grounds, (snow removal), etc.
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and work both in a non-temperature-controlled environment and outdoors.
  • Other duties as required and/or assigned.

  • This position reports to the Production Supervisor.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Associate's degree in industrial maintenance, engineering and/or equivalent.
  • One (1) year of experience in industrial maintenance.
  • Basic working knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Outlook or similar email software.
  • The ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues.
  • The ability to work in a team environment with a diverse group of people.
  • The ability to meet production, safety, and quality standards in a high-paced working environment.
  • Ability to be Valmont trained and certified in operation of forklift and if applicable based on location, overhead crane.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment and follow facility safety regulations.
  • Maintain a safe and productive working environment.
  • Physically capable and available to work overtime including weekends, public holidays, and evenings.
  • If applicable based on location, must be available for on-call rotation.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial maintenance, engineering, and/or equivalent.
  • One (1) to Two (2) years of experience in industrial/manufacturing maintenance.
  • Must have a high awareness for safety at all times.
  • Working knowledge of single and three phase electrical circuitry with an ability to read electrical schematics.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Experience performing all position arc and wire feed welding on steel and aluminum.
  • Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, water and natural gas plumbing.
  • Experience with mills/lathes.
  • Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.

Working Conditions & Physical Efforts:

The job is performed in an indoor shop environment.  The temperature range can be from 100 degrees in the summer to about 50 degrees in the winter.  Most operations may expose employee to some type of disagreeable working conditions (wind, cold, heat, dust, dirt, fumes, noise, vibration, water, or oil).  Working conditions may vary with specific work assignments.  Exposure to electrical hazards, grease, loud noises, and outside elements occur continually or regularly.  Extreme care should be taken to prevent damage to equipment or department personnel in the area of operations especially when performing setups.  The job requires safety glasses, hearing protection, and metatarsal safety shoes be worn at all times.  The employee must be able to spend the entire work shift on their feet within the shop environment. The incumbent must also be able to wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) for working in the production facility.

Hazards:

This job requires handling metal objects some of which have sharp edges.  Extreme care and awareness should be taken for all production jobs.  Below are some common hazards that exist for this particular position.  Set up and run of equipment provides the potential for injury through slips, falls, strains, pinch points, tripping hazards, shot blasting equipment, high pressure air nozzles, material handling equipment.
