Job Summary
92NY’s Athletics division is seeking an experienced, professional, and enthusiastic Pickleball Instructor to teach our Sunday instructional pickleball classes during the 2026–27 semester.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with adult players across a range of skill levels, from true beginners learning the fundamentals of the game through intermediate players looking to improve technique, strategy, consistency, and overall match play.
Our instructional pickleball program is designed to provide participants with high-quality, progressive instruction in a welcoming and organized environment. We are looking for an instructor who can assess the needs of each group, provide clear and engaging instruction, and create a positive experience that keeps participants learning and progressing throughout the semester.
This position requires consistent Sunday availability and a commitment to teaching the full instructional semester schedule.
Job Responsibilities Include
- Teach scheduled Sunday instructional pickleball classes for adults at beginner through intermediate skill levels.
- Provide clear instruction on pickleball fundamentals, including grip, positioning, serving, returning, groundstrokes, volleys, dinking, footwork, court positioning, scoring, and rules of play.
- Introduce more advanced concepts for intermediate players, including shot selection, transition-zone play, partner positioning, strategy, consistency, and point construction.
- Develop and follow a progressive semester-based curriculum so participants build skills from week to week rather than receiving isolated instruction.
- Assess participant skill levels and adapt drills and instruction to appropriately challenge players within each class.
- Create organized lesson plans that balance technical instruction, drills, situational play, and supervised game play.
- Maintain accurate attendance for all assigned classes.
- Ensure equipment and playing areas are properly set up before class and organized following each session.
- Maintain a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and professional environment for all participants.
- Greet participants positively and represent 92NY and the Athletics department professionally at all times.
- Communicate participant questions, concerns, injuries, incidents, or program needs promptly to the Director of Sports & Leagues.
- Support participants in understanding skill levels and determining the appropriate instructional class as they progress.
- May have opportunities to teach private lessons, clinics, workshops, or additional pickleball programming based on program needs and instructor availability.
Experience, Education, & Skills Desired
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Pickleball coaching/instructor certification or relevant coursework preferred but not required.
- CPR/AED certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification as required by 92NY.
Work Environment & Requirements
- Previous pickleball teaching or coaching experience required.
- Must be comfortable teaching beginner through intermediate-level adult players.
- Experience teaching group instructional classes strongly preferred.
- Ability to effectively demonstrate and explain pickleball techniques, rules, positioning, and strategy.
- Ability to develop and deliver a structured curriculum across a multi-week semester.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with participants of different ages, backgrounds, abilities, and experience levels.
- Ability to provide constructive, encouraging, and individualized feedback while managing a group class.
- Must be dependable, punctual, organized, and committed to maintaining consistent attendance for scheduled Sunday classes.
- Must demonstrate professionalism and strong customer-service skills when interacting with 92NY members and program participants.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Athletics team and communicate program needs or participant concerns in a timely manner.
