Water Production Operator

This requisition expires on October 24, 2026, but may close earlier if the position is filled prior to the expiration date.

• Assist with collecting samples and performing water quality tests; learn to interpret the results to ensure appropriate plant function.
• Learn and perform calculations for chemical additions; fill and adjust chemical feeder, as appropriate. 
• Learn to record meter readings; drain sludge values and backwash filters.
• Assist with operational problem troubleshooting and process control problems; review and learn historical plant data and water quality results to understand plant operations.
• Assist plant operators with maintaining plant operations using supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), system information; learn to and perform activities to ensure proper water levels and system pressures.
• Learn and perform minor maintenance including, but not limited to, feed pumps and instrumentation under the supervision of a licensed operator, as directed.
• Assist with monitoring plant equipment, gauges, meters, and control panels to ensure proper treatment process function. 
• Complete custodial duties including, but not limited to, sweeping and mopping, as needed.
• Collaborate with plant personnel and external service providers to ensure efficient operations and maintenance. 
• Adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols including, but not limited to, Confined Space and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, City and department policies and procedures, and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Operate hand tools, mid-size to complex equipment; observe all safety guidelines established by the City of Denton.
• Maintain thorough logs and records according to regulatory agency requirements.

• High School diploma or equivalent; and,
• One (1) year experience in mechanical equipment operation/use, or related field; and, 
• If not already possess, must have and maintain valid Grade “D” Water License issued from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within six (6) months of employment, 
• If not already possess, must have and maintain valid Grade “C” Water License issued from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within three (3) years of employment, 

• Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

• Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local Government laws, ordinances, and regulations.
• Skill in comprehending and interpreting data using SCADA, information management systems, graphs, and charts. 
• Skill in problem solving; identifying problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. 
• Skill at the beginner level, working with applicable Microsoft Office 365 products, and other software systems to complete work. 
• Skill in providing exceptional service to internal and external customers. 
• Ability to communicate effectively, both in oral and written forms, for the needs of the audience.

• Must have and maintain a valid Class “C” Driver’s License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class “C” driver’s license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law).
• Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, employment history verification, and social security number verification.
• Must pass a physical examination.
• If not already possess, must have and maintain valid Grade “D” Water License issued from TCEQ within six (6) months of employment. 
• If not already possess, must have and maintain valid Grade “C” Water License issued from TCEQ within three (3) years of employment.

• Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing; operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Promptly report unsafe conditions in the work area and/or any conditions that are not immediately correctable to the supervisor.

• Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; require use of hand and pneumatic tools, hoists, tractors, forklift, brush hog, and motor vehicle; wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Posture: Prolonged sitting, stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, twisting, and climbing.
• Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding, use of mouse, and reaching.
• Lifting: Lifting no more than 50 pounds and carrying up to 25 pounds. 
• Environment: Works inside and outside with exposure sun, heat, cold, humidity, and inclement weather, untreated sewage water, noise, fuses, chemicals, odors, hazardous gases, potentially hazardous conditions, and rough terrain; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
• Travel: Travels to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
• Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must be able to work shift as designated by department based on 24 hours a day, 7 days per week operations including evenings, nights, holidays, weekends, and inclement weather. Must be able to work overtime, as needed.
