Senior Operations Manager - Machining and Welding

Overview

This critical leadership role has full accountability for the culture and operational performance of the Machining, Welding and Fabrication departments at Bruno.  This Leader will mentor and guide a team of 150+ talented Production Team Leaders and Machining/Welding professionals, leveraging Lean and operations principles to ensure Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost targets are achieved for the business.  This high impact role also leads the vision and strategy development for the plant, including partnering with the Engineering teams on Design For Manufacturability (DFM) for new products and establishing a clear roadmap for automation growth and other key process technology implementation to grow both capacity and improve productivity.

Responsibilities

• Provide effective leadership coaching to Production Team Leaders and Team Captains to grow their leadership and supervisory capabilities.
• Coach team on appropriate Lean tools to drive continuous improvement in the areas of Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost.
• Ensure team has visibility to key performance indicators for daily management and abnormalities are escalated and addressed in a timely fashion.
• Provide oversight and guidance for future roadmap of process technology and automation.
• Utilize data driven processes and metrics to achieve key performance objectives.
• Manage departmental staffing, performance, labor, and overtime metrics.
• Support the Team Leaders in the facilitation of monthly team meetings in support of strong communication, collaboration, process improvements, goal attainment.
• Partner with Human Resources on employee relations issues, policy administration, hiring, onboarding, and retention.
• Lead and coach both direct and indirect teams to ensure key project management activities deliver benefits to the operation.
• Ensure that all required welding certifications and compliance requirements are met for appropriate processes in the operation.
• Develop and maintain the annual departmental budget, including plan and oversight of capital equipment deployment.
• Incorporate shop floor organization and plant cleanliness among plant personnel. (5S)

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

• Bachelor’s degree in related field with broad technical and leadership experience in a production manufacturing environment with a significant machining/fabrication/welding component, plus a minimum of 10 years management experience required. 

• Familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, a demonstrated history of Lean tool deployment and prior machining and/or welding experience is strongly preferred. 

This strong leader must be able to collaborate with other leaders within the company, to drive process improvements and organizational growth.  This individual will have proven expertise in resource planning and successfully identifying and implementing process improvement initiatives.  Additionally, this position requires an individual that demonstrates a leadership style that is confident and motivating, yet flexible and collaborative, possessing the ability to prioritize and communicate effectively with well-reasoned, and creative thought.

 

Skills and Abilities:

• Read, analyze, and interpret reports and legal documents.  Write articles at publication level that conform to prescribed style and format. 
• Effectively present information to employees, management, customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. 
• Requires job related software skills, MS Office and the ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment.

• Environment is a modern production facility with heat and air conditioning with office near shop floor
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is generally required to ambulate and use hands and fingers   
• Ability to lift up to 10 pounds
