Description
Primarily responsible for assisting youth involved in any of the programs they are involved in at OPTIONS.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Supervision and transportation of youth involved in community service work
- Communication with the referral source and parent(s)/legal guardian(s) on the youth’s compliance with completing assigned homework, make up work, or completing assigned projects
- Maintains documentation related to each youth in their electronic file; ensures records and files are complete, accurate and comprehensive according to established standards of operation and upholds confidentiality
- Assists staff in follow-up on youth
- Works with local school personnel, various county personnel, juvenile probation officers, and other Court personnel, parents, and other professionals daily
- Other duties as assigned
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Performs various clerical tasks in support of assigned duties and responsibilities, i.e. filing, copying, etc.
- Performs related duties as required
Education equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or related field supplemented by 1 year of experience working with adolescents.
Special Qualifications:
Must have satisfactory results of a criminal history and child protective services background checks. Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Good computer skills
- Knowledge of various software including Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point etc.
- Ability to operate various office equipment such as fax, copier, phone, computer, etc.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to follow direction
- Ability to exercise considerable tact and discretion in handling confidential personnel information
- Ability to use independent judgment and work with little direct supervision as situations warrant
- Ensures safety standard compliance for the department
- Ability and willingness to work assigned weekends for special community service work events
- Ability to perform moderate physical work
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact with supervisors, members of the general public, and all other groups involved in the activities of the department
- Good mathematical skills
- Ability to be in compliance with the County’s Vehicle policy
- Able to effectively plan and manage responsibilities
- Able to establish priorities and schedule appointments
- Strong writing skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as moderate. Must be able to lift 12-20 pounds. Very moderate physical work, typically involving stooping, kneeling, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects, etc.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Essential functions are regularly performed in an office setting and supervising community service work. Tasks may risk exposure to violence. Tasks risk exposure to stressful situations and high-risk individuals.
