Under general supervision, the Bilingual Youth Care Worker provides direct care, supervision, and support to unaccompanied children (UC) in Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) funded residential or foster care programs. This position ensures the safety, well-being, and development of youth while promoting a structured, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive environment. Bilingual Spanish is required.


Youth Care Workers are responsible for daily routines, recreational and educational support, behavioral guidance, and collaboration with clinical and case management teams to meet the physical, emotional, and social needs of children in care.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide 24/7 supervision and support to youth in residential or foster care settings.
  • Monitor visits between children and birth families and provide intervention and support.
  • Ensure the safety and security of youth at all times.
  • Assist youth with daily living activities including meals, hygiene, and recreation.
  • Promote social-emotional development through positive guidance, encouragement, and role modeling.
  • Support youth participation in educational, therapeutic, and recreational activities.
  • Implement trauma-informed behavior management strategies and positive reinforcement techniques.
  • Monitor youth behavior, document incidents, and report concerns to supervisors or clinical staff.
  • Respond to emergencies, behavioral crises, or medical situations in accordance with program policies and safety protocols.
  • Support youth in developing coping skills, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.

Hiring Rate of Pay: $19 - $20 an hour.



Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish is required.
  • A minimum 1-year experience working with children or youth in residential, childcare, or social service settings preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries and demonstrate patience, empathy, and resilience.
  • Be able to obtain Criminal and Child Abuse Clearance from the State of California/Department of Justice.
  • Must be available full-time and able to adjust workday/work week to provide services when clients and families need them, which can routinely include evenings and occasionally weekends, in order to ensure coordination and continuity of services.
  • Must pass a drug screen, physical exam, and Tuberculosis skin test.
  • A Greater Hope participates in E-Verify and will verify your Social Security Number.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and a good driving record. Must be at least 18 years old with at least 2 years of driving experience.

Additional Qualifications

This position is funded through a federal cooperative agreement with the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). Continued employment is contingent upon continued grant funding, ORR approval (when applicable), and continued compliance with all ORR, licensing, and A Greater Hope personnel requirements.


As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must:

  • Meet all minimum qualifications established by ORR and A Greater Hope for the position.
  • Successfully obtain and maintain an ORR Suitability Determination, including all required background investigations and clearances, prior to having contact with unaccompanied children.
  • Successfully complete all required criminal history background checks, child abuse and neglect registry checks, fingerprint-based clearances, and other background screenings required by ORR, Community Care Licensing (CCL), and A Greater Hope.
  • Successfully complete all required ORR pre-service, onboarding, annual, and ongoing training within required timeframes.
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and child-centered services to unaccompanied children.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is required for positions designated as bilingual and may be verified through A Greater Hope's language proficiency assessment process.
  • Provide documentation of all required immunizations and authorize A Greater Hope to obtain and verify immunization records through the California Immunization Registry (CAIR), as applicable.
  • Successfully complete and maintain all required health screenings, physical examinations, tuberculosis (TB) clearance, immunizations, vaccinations, and other medical requirements established by ORR, Community Care Licensing (CCL), applicable law, or A Greater Hope policy.
  • Maintain all required licenses, certifications, registrations, and credentials applicable to the position throughout employment.
  • Comply with all applicable ORR policies, federal regulations, state laws, licensing requirements, accreditation standards, confidentiality requirements, and A Greater Hope policies and procedures as a condition of employment.
  • Possess and maintain authorization to work in the United States. Positions requiring transportation duties must maintain a valid driver's license, an acceptable driving record, and insurability under A Greater Hope's automobile insurance policy.
