Role synopsis
The trading teams in ST&S RPTE are one of three regional performance units in ST&S and are primarily responsible for marketing BP’s exploration production throughout the region, sourcing crude for our refineries, trading on behalf of our associates and for supporting our refinery assets in order to maximise commercial performance. Operations are a vital part of supply and trading. In RPTE this covers physical, paper and refinery coordination elements of operations across a large geographical region and deals with a wide variety of cultures and disciplines. The Operations team comprises of sub teams namely Trading Operations, Voyage Operations, Cargo Assurance, Demurrage, Doc. Admin, Commercial Analysts, Trading Operations Analysts and Shipping Coordination. Operations have a key role to play in ensuring that the front to back process runs smoothly, technical expertise is provided, and that valuable data and information is collected, entered and forwarded in a timely manner in order to provide full support to others dependent on such information in order to maintain an efficient and compliant process. The team manages the logistics of a deal to bp’s best commercial advantage whilst ensuring that all contractual and Group assurance obligations are met.
The Trading Operations Analyst provides a specialised service to the trading benches and assurance to the bp group that all appropriate stock inventory has been identified and measured. This role plays an important part reconciling book stocks back to the physical stocks assuring stocks are accounted for correctly to prevent under or overstatement of inventory. Trading Operations Analyst also has a key role to play in ensuring that the front to back process runs smoothly and that valuable data and information is collected, entered and forwarded in a timely manner. This provides support to many other teams within ST&S allowing effective management of the business.
Key accountabilities
Provide accurate and timely accounting of one or more trading books, each of which brings with it a unique set of challenges.
Operate in a compliant manner by ensuring that proper controls are in place for all team processes.
Ensure month-end preparation and activities are completed on time.
Support the creation of new and maintenance of existing reference data for stock locations and inventory points.
Support ad-hoc activity around audits.
Work closely with Trading Operators to maximise process improvement.
Develop strong working relationships with operators, associates and other ST&S departments.
Dedicatedly track lifting’s within some of the Operations Term contracts and ensure balances are matched within the systems.
You may have responsibility, or cover, the daily credit spread sheet and learn and understanding the impact and implications to Trading Operations.
Zeroing out all commitments in Operations Workbench (OWB) with Trading Operations approval (all benches)
Assist Trading Operators with draft documentation for cargoes, voyage orders and credit instruments.
Develop strong interpersonal relationships.
As part of your role, you will learn a thorough understanding of tracking stock positions within BP owned and third-party tankage.
What you will need to be successful
Trading Operations Analysts come from a wide variety of backgrounds with differing levels of experience and expertise, which is beneficial when considering the width of the role.
It would be good but not essential if you already have some operational experience and a good working knowledge of the energy trading and shipping environment or a good knowledge of refinery operations and blending.
