JOB TITLE: Domestic Violence Shelter Advocate 

ORGANIZATIONAL UNIT: House of Hope Domestic Violence Program 

SUPERVISOR: Director House of Hope Domestic Violence Program

FLSA: Non-Exempt

PAY RANGE: $14.00- $21.00 hourly  

 

**CPN Health Services personnel may be assigned to provide services to patients of all ages including but not limited to Indian Children and will require a criminal history background screening.**


Job Summary: The shelter advocate is responsible for providing support and advocacy to victims of domestic violence and their children in the House of Hope Shelter, including assisting shelter residents with daily living needs and providing general support and shelter coverage. The Shelter Advocate also prepares rooms for new residents and conducts house checks. The Shelter Advocate is an AWAKE position. Shelter Advocates provide regular coverage in addition to weekday and holiday coverage as needed. 


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

· Assists with the daily living needs of shelter residents.

· Facilitates cooperative living, peer support, and resident participation in shelter programming.

· Completes an exit survey with clients leaving shelter as well as required exit paperwork.

· Communicates shelter rules and communal living guidelines to residents as outlined in the shelter intake. Promptly addresses difficulties or problems that arise per agency protocol, addresses any communal living concerns with residents and maintains documentation of the discussions.

· Complete screening process to fill available shelter space.

· Assure that residents are treated with respect and dignity regardless of race, ethnic background, gender or socioeconomic background.

· Working holidays if it falls on your scheduled shift.


Qualifications:

· Experience in a residential facility setting strongly preferred.

· Experience working with trauma survivors strongly preferred.

· Knowledge of domestic violence issues preferred.

· Knowledge of Native American culture that may be useful in working with Native American victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.

· Must be compassionate and professional.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: 

· First Aid/AED 

· Others as required


Supervises: No supervisory responsibilities


Working Conditions:

· Work is primarily performed in a secured residential facility setting with communal areas, as well as in an office setting.

· Position requires the ability to monitor and observe the activities of residents, and children of residents, within the facility.

· Regularly exposed to cleaning products, chemicals and solvents. 

· Regularly exposed to illnesses including possible vomit and blood.

· Work requires the agility to move about and position self efficiently to perform physical tasks and address emergency situations.

· Exposure to foul language, bad attitudes, and threats

· Possible exposure to drug use and/or behaviors while resident is high or in withdrawal

· Employees of HOH are funded by a variety of federal funds. Continued employment is contingent upon continue receipt of those funds
