Exercise Physiologist (PRN)

Summary of the Job: 

The Licensed Clinical Exercise Physiologist is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for patients recovering from any acute coronary event in an effort to facilitate restoration and maintenance of the patient’s optimal physiological, psychological, social, vocational, and emotional status.  This position will work closely with the patient’s physician, staff members and other hospital departments to coordinate admission and to establish initial exercise prescription utilizing ACSM and AACVPR practice guidelines.  The Licensed Clinical Exercise Physiologist will focus on cardiopulmonary and musculoskeletal systems, cardiac risk factors and functional capacity for patients in all phases of Cardiopulmonary Services.  This position evaluates the Cardiopulmonary Services patient’s progress toward goals and recognizes potential emergency situations during exercise.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree in Exercise Science or a Master of Education Degree in an exercise studies curriculum from an accredited school which is approved by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)

• Current licensed with the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners as a Clinical Exercise Physiologist.  

• Current BLS certification through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to:  Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross.  The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off.  

Physical Demands:
Must possess good physical health.  Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time.  Lifting at least 50 pounds is required.

Constant (67%-100%) – seeing
Frequently (34%-66%) - lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling/feeling, talking, hearing
Occasionally (1%-33%) – climbing, stooping, crouching
