OVERVIEW
The Communications Specialist is responsible for developing proactive internal and external communications strategies to support S&B’s business plan and objectives. This position will create and execute effective internal and external communications plans, working across the organization to plan, write, edit and distribute engaging and informative communication across a wide variety of channels. The role will also support ongoing public relations strategies and deliver compelling content for S&B’s social media channels, in addition to planning and executing S&B’s quarterly corporate employee events and employee townhalls.

EDUCATION:
Requires a four-year degree or equivalent, preferably in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or a related field.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 3-5+ years of experience in communications across marketing communications, public relations or corporate communications.
- Excellent written and verbal communications, as well as outstanding copywriting and proofreading skills. Strong story-telling mindset that can effectively craft and develop key messaging and translate it into engaging and informative content for various audiences (employees, media, public, customers).
- Must be well versed in Associated Press style and writing.
- Use collaborative thinking and able to work across varying levels of the organization.
- Superior time management and organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- An analytical mind and ability to think critically.
- Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and capable of creating visually compelling presentations. Experience with Canva a plus.
- Previous experience managing and using internal communications platforms and tools, such as Teams Live, Portal CMS, email platforms, etc.
- Must be a self-starter and able to independently move projects forward, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Proven knowledge of communications and marketing best practices.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Communications Specialist will assist in the creation and execution of S&B’s corporate and internal communications strategy, including public relations, external/internal communications and corporate employee events and town halls. The role will also create and publish weekly content for S&B TV, a key internal communications tool for employee engagement and awareness.
Key responsibilities include:
Communications:
- Responsible for creating written content, including press releases, company announcements, internal newsletters, Insights blog posts, portal news stories, and LinkedIn content.
- Conduct interviews and research to obtain and translate ideas into pertinent Company communications topics.
- Help coordinate and produce employee town halls and leadership events, and serve as a project lead, working with a cross-functional team, to bring it all together. Plan and execute S&B’s large-scale quarterly employee events, working across S&B offices to drive engagement and participation.
- Ensure accuracy of communications to make sure messages fit within the context of the Company’s communications strategies.
- Participate in the development and implementation of a communications strategy designed to further company objectives.
- Manage and upload content regularly to company intranet and assist in maintaining MyS&B portal with new and current internal content. Support S&B’s internal departments by providing best practices and recommendations for communicating via the portal to internal stakeholders.
- Monitor analytics and create reports detailing the successes and failures of communications campaigns and strategies.
- Create and publish weekly content for S&B TV, a key internal communications tool for employee engagement and awareness.
- Assist and support video communications strategy for internal and external communications
Social Media & Content Development:
- Support execution of S&B’s LinkedIn content strategy and content calendar. Develop, schedule, and publish content for S&B’s LinkedIn channel in collaboration with internal stakeholders and agency partners.
- Assist with development of visual content and ensure social media content aligns with S&B’s brand, messaging and content strategy.
- Monitor engagement and provide monthly performance reporting and recommendations.
Event Marketing:
- Plan and execute quarterly corporate employee engagement events, including promotion, logistics and coordination of pre- and post-event details.
- Assist in the planning and execution of internal town halls, including supporting Teams Live facilitation, sending out post-event surveys and managing Town Hall analytics dashboard and reporting.
Performs other Marketing & Communications related duties as needed.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Strong communication skills are essential for this position. In addition to the qualifications already identified, the ability to read, analyze and interpret policies, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical bulletins, and government regulations is a plus for this role. The ability to write reports and business correspondence is also a requirement. Job success often hinges upon interpersonal communication and relationship development skills, and job tasks require frequent interchange, and successful completion depends in large part upon effective interaction and communication with others.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Position requires the ability to manage and track ongoing marketing, communications and events budgets in addition to key analytics to accurately report on employee engagement, event and marketing and communications outcomes.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Position requires the ability to hear normal conversation, see near objects and speak clearly. Occasionally may participate in a field trip to a job site which requires the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance. Lifting up to 25 pounds unassisted may be required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Most work performed in a fast-paced office environment with hybrid schedule. Research and development may require travel. Must be able to balance the demands of competing workloads to achieve deadlines and priorities.
