Job Description:
About the Role
Russell Investments is seeking a highly analytical, technology-minded Portfolio Implementation Analyst to join our Mumbai-based team supporting the fast-growing Personalized Managed Accounts (PMA) business. This role sits within a global portfolio management team responsible for implementing systematic, tax-aware and personalized investment strategies across client accounts.
You will support daily portfolio implementation, optimization, trade preparation and data validation while helping improve the systems and processes that make the business scalable. The strongest candidates will be comfortable working across multiple systems, investigating issues, using data to form a view, and translating problems and enhancement ideas into clear recommendations for portfolio managers, business partners and developers.
What You’ll Do
· Support daily portfolio implementation, including account optimization, trade creation and review, compliance checks, cash management, data validation and exception resolution.
· Analyze optimizer results and portfolio data to identify unusual outcomes, data-quality issues, system defects and opportunities to improve decision rules or workflows.
· Work across investment, trading, risk, data and operational systems; determine whether breaks originate from data, configuration, process or technology and drive issues toward resolution.
· Use SQL, Excel and other analytical tools to query, reconcile and validate data, support root-cause analysis, and reduce manual checks where practical.
· Identify and help implement automation opportunities that improve accuracy, control, speed and scalability, including thoughtful use of AI and emerging technologies.
· Translate business problems into clear requirements: articulate the issue, impact, evidence and recommended enhancement to peers, managers and developers; support testing and implementation.
· Coordinate with global portfolio management, trading, operations, research and technology teams on trades, cash activity, account events and implementation issues.
· Interpret and process security corporate actions and help resolve security master, pricing and other market-data exceptions across a large security universe.
· Document procedures, controls, recurring issues and findings; manage multiple priorities, execute directions accurately, and escalate material issues with concise analysis and recommended next steps.
What We’re Looking For
· 3-5 years of experience in investment management, portfolio operations, trading, investment technology, data analysis or a related field.
· Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, mathematics, engineering, computer science or a related discipline. A master’s degree, CFA progress/designation or other relevant qualification is beneficial but not required.
· Strong understanding of capital markets, investment portfolios, asset classes and/or performance measurement, combined with rigorous analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Demonstrated comfort working with multiple systems and large data sets, including the ability to recognize when something does not look right, investigate why, and recommend a practical response.
· Working knowledge of SQL and strong Excel skills. Experience with Python, Power BI or other data/automation tools is a plus.
· Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain a problem, its business impact and a recommended solution to both investment professionals and technology teams.
· Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively; a self-starter who takes ownership, asks questions early and is candid when a concept, process or requirement is unclear.
· Strong organization, attention to detail and time management, with the ability to execute instructions consistently and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
· Comfort making pragmatic decisions in ambiguous situations, documenting the rationale, and adjusting as new information becomes available.
· Curiosity, strong work ethic and a continuous-improvement mindset; willing to challenge the status quo constructively and look for better ways to work.
Preferred Experience
· Retail or institutional trading, portfolio management, portfolio implementation or portfolio optimization.
· Axioma Portfolio or another portfolio optimization/risk platform; Bloomberg or similar market-data tools.
· Security-level corporate actions, security master/reference data, pricing data and exception resolution across a broad security universe.
· System testing, requirements gathering, process design, workflow automation or partnership with software developers and technology teams.
· Using AI or emerging technologies to streamline analysis, documentation, controls or investment workflows.
· Tax-managed investing, direct indexing or separately managed accounts is helpful, but prior U.S. tax-management experience is not required.
How You’ll Work
This is a hands-on role in a rapidly growing business. You should be comfortable moving quickly, learning continuously and taking ownership from the outset. We value people who are direct, curious and dependable; who ask good questions rather than make silent assumptions; who can make a reasonable decision with incomplete information and explain their reasoning; and who actively look for opportunities to make the portfolio-management process more efficient, scalable and robust.
Why Join PMA?
· Join one of Russell Investments’ strategic growth businesses and help shape how a scaled, technology-enabled portfolio-management platform evolves.
· Gain exposure to global portfolio management, trading, optimization, risk, investment operations and technology while working with experienced investment professionals across regions.
· Build a career at the intersection of investing, data and technology, with meaningful opportunities to take ownership as the business and platform expand.
· Have visible impact: strong ideas, thoughtful analysis and effective automation can improve client outcomes and the way the team operates from day one.Portfolio Implementation Analyst
