Job Description Summary

At GE Aerospace, we are advancing aviation technologies for today and tomorrow. Your work will contribute to the production of advanced jet engines, components, and integrated systems that power commercial and military aircraft. You will be part of a team that embraces your drive, your curiosity, and your unique ideas and perspectives. Most importantly, you will share in our pride and purpose that affects the lives of millions around the world.

About the Role

Innoveering, a GE Aerospace company, develops high-tech engine propulsion programs, including supersonic and hypersonic R&D prototype initiatives. This role is a hands-on program leader for that work. As Senior Program Manager, you will lead a team made up of a project engineer and engineering specialists matrixed into the program, and you will own the program's cost, schedule, and budget commitments.

Based in Bohemia, NY, you will report to the Director of Programs and serve as the face of the program to the customer.

Job Description

In this role you will:

  • Lead the program team to meet program specifications, milestones, and cost, schedule, and margin targets, while ensuring quality and safety standards are met or exceeded
  • Serve as the direct company and program representative to the customer, and work with business development to identify growth opportunities within the program
  • Lead and manage the technical and business elements of the program, including developing the SOW, WBS, IMS, and cost and schedule requirements for new projects
  • Oversee the performance and development of the program management team, and manage staffing for both headcount and skill mix, forecasting future needs with engineering
  • Track and report program performance against financial margin targets, and present critical path activities and performance goals to management each month
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate program risks, and immediately report any customer, contractual, or technical issue that could jeopardize the program
  • Maintain an active, transparent working relationship with Engineering, Operations, Test, Quality, Finance, and Contracts, and coordinate personnel, test facilities, and production capabilities with leadership and other project managers to balance company and program goals

The Ideal Candidate

You are a hands-on program leader who combines technical credibility with strong business discipline. You are comfortable owning cost, schedule, and performance commitments, and you are equally comfortable standing in front of the customer. You prioritize multiple programs, take action early, and keep a matrixed team aligned and moving. You communicate clearly, learn continuously, and build working relationships across engineering, operations, test, finance, and contracts.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • 10 years of experience in engineering and program management working with the DoD, military services, and aerospace contractors on jet engine manufacturing, supersonic and hypersonic propulsion systems, or similar programs
  • Competence with program management software and Microsoft Office products
  • Working knowledge of finance practices in program management, including labor accounting, overhead management, and government contract rules for performance and compliance
  • Ability to develop and negotiate work plans with the customer and internal support organizations
  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and present technical, financial, and general business information

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Microsoft Project experience for schedule and resource management (other tools are acceptable)
  • Working knowledge of propulsion test cell processes and coordination with engineering
  • Team facilitation skills, including running meetings that serve their business objectives and draw on others' contributions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a matrixed environment and prioritize multiple projects
  • Self-starter who takes prompt action, addresses problems, and goes beyond what is required
  • Strong problem-solving skills, practical judgment, and a collaborative, approachable, responsive work style
  • Active learner who applies new knowledge and skills on the job
  • Efficient manager of time and resources
