Description

The City of Rancho Cucamonga’s Community Services Department is seeking part-time Theater Technicians. As a Theater Technician I, you may be responsible for various technical specialties that provide production support to events in the Theater. Under general supervision, the Theater Technician I may be responsible for performing a variety of construction, electrical, technical, and theatrical production duties in support of productions in the Lewis Family Playhouse and Victoria Gardens Cultural Center.

Under general supervision, the Theater Technician I may be responsible for performing a variety of construction, electrical, technical, and theatrical production duties in support of productions in the Lewis Family Playhouse and Victoria Gardens Cultural Center.

About the Lewis Family Playhouse at Victoria Gardens Cultural Center: 
The Lewis Family Playhouse is an intimate, state-of-the-art performing arts center with 560 seats owned and operated by the City of Rancho Cucamonga. As a major anchor to the Victoria Gardens Lifestyle Shopping Center, the Lewis Family Playhouse educates, entertains, and ignites the imagination through high-quality theatrical experiences for children, families, and audiences of all ages throughout Southern California. In addition to the Lewis Family Playhouse, the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center includes a 60-seat Black Box Theatre, large-scale event spaces, and an outdoor courtyard stage.This position might be perfect for you if you:

  • Have technical experience in theatrical sound, lighting, carpentry, and rigging (preference for those with skills in carpentry and rigging, but experience in lighting and A/V will also be considered)

What you’ll be responsible for at Lewis Family Playhouse:
  • Supporting all theatrical departments, including sound, lighting, carpentry, and wardrobe. This position will perform work for all related theatrical departments including sound, lighting, carpentry, rigging, loading and unloading trucks and vehicles with show and event gear, building truss structures (both indoor and out), cleaning and maintaining all equipment safely and in accordance with policy, repairing and maintaining wardrobe and costumes set-up, and operating video and virtual events and meetings. This position will assist with technical support for the productions at the Lewis Family Playhouse, including related duties as required
  • Assisting with technical set-ups required at all the Victoria Gardens Cultural Center spaces, such as the Lewis Family Playhouse, Imagination Courtyard, Black Box Theater, as well as other locations as needed within the City of Rancho Cucamonga facilities or events Adhering to safety standards 
  • Assisting with maintaining inventory of theater, equipment, and supplies 
  • Assisting more senior Technicians in overseeing production load-in and load-out. Working in the construction, load-in, operation, and striking of all productions, scenic and properties construction and painting, and aspects of stage lighting, sound, and video production
  • Following all policies and procedures concerning technical specifications, safety manuals, and equipment maintenance; Set up and strike for a variety of shows and/or events
  • Implementing best practices and standards in guest services
  • Understanding the technical requirements for each event
Education and/or Experience: 
Successful candidates must be at least 18 years of age with equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade and have working knowledge of theatrical production systems, and their care, maintenance, and troubleshooting. 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work as a stagehand of rigging, electrics, light, audio, and sound systems is essential. Incumbent must have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to meet deadlines and work a flexible schedule (including evenings, weekends, and holidays) and have a strong sense of responsibility and organizational skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequent standing and sitting. Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper; occasional lifting of items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds such as files, stacks of paper, sets, drops and other materials. Moving from place to place using stairs and ladders; some reaching for items above and below desk level. Strength, dexterity, coordination and vision to use keyboard and video display terminal occasionally; use of hand tools power tools and carrying and listing of construction materials and hardware weighing up to fifty (50) pounds regularly.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Generally clean work environment on stage with exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, odors and noise from production and set building and breakdown. May work outside during inclement weather
