Description

Role purpose

Coordinate daily transport movements, monitor vehicles and drivers, and ensure collections and deliveries run according to plan.

This role requires an organised individual who communicates clearly, maintains accurate records and responds calmly to changing priorities. Candidates must be prepared to work shifts. Previous experience in transport control, fleet tracking or logistics operations is highly advantageous.

Key responsibilities

Transport coordination

  • Coordinate vehicle and driver allocations according to operational instructions.
  • Monitor collections, deliveries and trip progress against agreed schedules.
  • Communicate route instructions, loading arrangements and delivery requirements to drivers.
  • Liaise with warehouse teams and customers to coordinate loading and offloading.
  • Update schedules when delays or operational changes occur.

Vehicle tracking and incident management

  • Monitor vehicle movements using the company's tracking systems.
  • Follow up on unexpected stops, route deviations and delivery delays.
  • Respond to breakdowns and other incidents by coordinating assistance and escalating to management.
  • Report safety concerns, driver non-compliance and service risks promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents and actions taken.

Administration and communication

  • Capture trip information and maintain operational records.
  • Check transport documentation for completeness and follow up outstanding proof of delivery.
  • Provide timely updates to customers and internal teams.
  • Prepare daily reports on vehicle movements, delays and unresolved matters.
  • Complete clear shift handovers so outstanding work receives attention.

Proposed qualifications and requirements

  • Matric or equivalent.
  • Willingness and availability to work shifts, including nights and weekends where required by the roster.
  • Previous experience in logistics control, fleet tracking, transport administration or driver coordination is highly advantageous.
  • Computer literacy, including accurate data capture, email and basic Excel.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organisation, attention to detail and the ability to manage several tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and escalate problems appropriately.
  • Reliable transport arrangements to attend all allocated shifts.
