The University of Miami, College of Arts and Sciences, has an exciting opportunity for a temporary part time Props Technician to work in Coral Gables, FL.


The Costume/Prop Technician creates and maintains costumes and related accessories for dramatic and musical productions. Additionally, the Costume/Prop Technician crafts various objects the performers interact with during their routine. The Costume/Prop Technician provides the necessary technical and artistic support to bring the production to life.


Core responsibilities:

  • Coordinates the purchasing of materials and supplies.
  • Repairs and alters costumes and accessories.
  • Cleans, maintains, and safeguards equipment.
  • Maintains inventories of costume shop stock and supplies.
  • Reads scripts to understand prop and costume needs.
  • Researches and brainstorms ideas.
  • Constructs lighter, cheaper analogues of typically heavier items.
  • Works backstage setting props, performing scene changes, and operating special effects.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions:

  • This position focuses on the pulling, building, altering, painting, and purchasing of props for Department of Theatre Arts productions.

Core Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required
  • Learning Agility: Ability to learn new procedures, technologies, and protocols, and adapt to changing priorities and work demands.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
  • Communication: Strong and clear written and verbal communication skills for interacting with colleagues and stakeholders.
