Job Description Summary
As a Realtime Digital System Stimulation (RTDS) Technician for GE Vernova Advanced Research, you will work with and support engineers in executing various power system hardware-in-loop (HIL) type projects for GE Vernova applications. You need to be comfortable with designing and populating printed circuits, populating wiring enclosures, fabricating inductors, and designing or building cabinets that can support control hardware. You will be expected to support evaluation of real time digital simulation systems, from electrical robustness, mechanical alignment, configuration of cooling systems, to arranging and configuring instrumentation.Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Design and commission power and signal interface circuits and corresponding printed circuit boards for controllers and instrumentations applied in HIL simulation for power system
- Procure, fabricate, and assemble electrical and mechanical components, subsystems and complete system assembly of engineering prototypes for research programs
- Design fixtures, electrical and electronic subsystems, instrumentation, data acquisition, mechanical and thermal subsystems, that facilitate the evaluation of electrical systems intended for a wide variety of applications
- Develop and implement test procedures for HIL systems and document performance results
- Troubleshoot and solve electrical and mechanical problems unassisted where objectives are clearly defined but course of action must be considered and determined
- Be responsible for the maintenance of standard laboratory equipment and facilities including calibration of instruments and monitoring devices
- Perform all work in accordance with EHS guidelines and compliance policies
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to work 1st Shift (8am-4pm)
- Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience, with a primary focus in technology applied to electronics OR a High School Diploma with a minimum of 10 years of experience, with a primary focus in technology applied to electronics
- Experience in designing and commissioning electrical/electronic circuits and printed circuit board (PCB) layout used in HIL testing setup used in power system projects
- Substantial experience in the design of test fixtures, including electrical, thermal, mechanical, and instrumentation technologies
- Experience with the experimental evaluation of low to medium voltage electrical systems
- Awareness of the grid codes and standards that apply to large scale power systems
- Safety First mindset – proactively keeps an eye out for safety issues with initiative to stop work as needed. Keeps the Real Time Simulation Labs organized and hazard-free
- Familiarity with Lockout Tagout (LOTO) Safety Programs and LOTO Compliance
- Must be legally authorized to work in the USA without sponsorship now or in the future
- This position is 100% onsite at Niskayuna, NY facility
Desired Characteristics:
- Documentation of test setup, major procedures, findings/results
- Preliminary data processing skills and using MS Excel and writing reports in MS Word
- Familiarity with a CAD software is a plus
