Job Description Summary
The PB1 (Developing) role serves as a key technical contributor within the Mechanical Loads Analysis (MLA) organization, bridging the gap between foundational engineering execution and independent project ownership. In this position, you will be responsible for executing routine and moderately complex load simulations, delivering accurate, high-quality analytical results that support product development and meet internal and external standards. Beyond daily analysis activities, you will serve as a technical problem-solver, proactively identifying, investigating, and resolving issues within the simulation toolchain while contributing to the continuous improvement of analytical methods, work instructions, and standard processes. Through collaboration with cross-functional engineering teams, mentorship of less experienced engineers, and clear communication of technical findings to stakeholders, the PB1 engineer plays a critical role in maintaining technical excellence, driving process consistency, and supporting successful project execution.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities:
Technical Execution & Ownership
- Independent Analysis: Lead the execution of routine and moderately complex Mechanical Load Analysis (MLA) simulations for new units and service projects. Ensure results are generated, verified, and documented according to established work desk instructions.
- Troubleshooting & Resolution: Act as the first line of technical support for simulation toolchain issues. Proactively diagnose model convergence errors, parameter inconsistencies, or unexpected output data (e.g., DELs) before escalating to senior staff.
- Data Integrity: Perform rigorous self-reviews of simulation inputs and outputs. Ensure that all analytical data is organized, traceable, and ready for Peer Review Board (PRB) evaluation.
Process & Quality Assurance
- Methodology Compliance: Apply internal and external standards (e.g., IEC, DiBT, METI) to daily work. Ensure that all assumptions and modeling choices are documented and justifiable.
- Process Maintenance: Actively contribute to the "Continuous Improvement" core competency by identifying inefficiencies in current work desk instructions. Propose and implement updates to documentation to improve team throughput.
Collaboration & Technical Leadership
- Mentorship: Serve as a technical point of contact for entry-level engineers. Provide guidance on standard toolchain workflows and help troubleshoot common simulation errors.
- Communication: Clearly communicate technical findings to internal stakeholders (e.g., Engineering, Commercial, or Product Line teams). Tailor the communication style to suit the audience, translating complex loads data into actionable project insights.
- Cross-Functional Engagement: Participate in PRB reviews and technical workshops. Collaborate with adjacent specialties (e.g., Wind Resource Assessment, Power Performance) to ensure a holistic understanding of the wind turbine system.
Strategic Contributions
- Commercial Understanding: Develop a practical understanding of how load analysis outputs influence project economics, such load enhanced operations or turbine life extension feasibility.
- System Thinking: Gain a broader perspective on how load effects interact with turbine control strategies, sensor/actuator modeling, and component durability.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, or Electrical Engineering (or a related field).
- 2 years proven experience in wind turbine loads assessment or a related technical engineering domain.
- 2 years demonstrated proficiency with simulation tools and analytical methodologies.
Desired Characteristics
- Ability to work autonomously on complex tasks while knowing when to escalate high-impact technical issues.
- Strong analytical mindset with a focus on data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Effective communicator capable of explaining technical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proactive approach to process maintenance and the development of new work instructions.
- Experience in providing support to teammates.
